Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce

The Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce will hold its 10th annual Chili Cook-off on Thursday, Oct. 8th from 6 to 8pm in the Sierra Madre Library Garden, at 440 W. Sierra Madre Blvd.

Attendees will have the opportunity to sample up to two dozen different chilis. In addition to prizes awarded based on judging by local ju...dges (Robin Salzer of Robin's BBQ is confirmed as a judge, others will be announced as they are confirmed), those in attendance will have the option of participating in a "People's Choice" award determined by their votes.
All contestants must provide 4 quarts of homemade, ready to serve chili in a crock pot or other heating tray. Contestants must also provide a serving spoon or ladle, plus condiments specific to your recipe (onions, cheese, etc.). Chili cups, spoons and napkins will be supplied. Contest limited to 25 entries. The deadline for entry is October 7, 2009. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Chamber website, www.SierraMadreChamber.com, or picked up at the Chamber office, 37 N. Auburn Ave., Sierra Madre. Kersting Court will come alive each Friday from July 17th through August 28th, with the sounds of live entertainment. In an attempt to encourage shoppers downtown, the Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce has booked musical acts to perform in the downtown area from 6:30 to 9pm for the last few weeks of July and all of Aug...ust. Depending on the response, Friday Night Live may be extended through September 18th.

In addition to live music, downtown merchants will stay open late, there will be shopping promotions taking place, and some stores will participate in a sidewalk sale.

Shoppers that spend $35 in any one participating retail store or $75 in any one participating restaurant will receive a free tote bag of goodies from the Chamber, while supplies last. They will also be entered in a drawing for prizes (tickets to Oak Tree at Santa Anita, tickets to the Sierra Madre Playhouse, dinner for two at local restaurants). Drawings will be held each week on Wednesday at the Sierra Madre Farmer's Market from tickets entered the week before.
