Silent Theatre Company Auditions for

CARNIVAL NOCTURNE

Silent Theatre Company welcomes visitors into the mysterious underground world of a traveling carnival. In the midst of fire breathers, fortune tellers, bestial tamers and natural freaks, a somber secret lies – a curse that binds them all together. With a live band and physical acts of car...nival performance, this original dark fable combines the styles of Tim Burton and Edward Gorey in a thrilling and enchanting ride through a world of whimsy and macabre.
This show runs November 19th - December 20th, 2009 @ The Storefront Theatre.

Silent Theatre Company Hello entertainers (or folks who know entertainers and can forward this to them),
Some of you may know that Silent Theatre is setting up camp at Prop Thtr starting August 28th with the opening of The Set Up and followed up with The Wild Party and since we're already burning the candle, we thought we'd invite you to burn... the candle with us. So here's the deal:
Every Saturday night, beginning August 29th and ending with October 3rd, at 10:30p, Silent Theatre will host a variety show. It will consist of 6-7 acts about 7-10 mins each, the proceeds of which (minus the $100 theatre rental fee) will be split among the acts (please note that it's split by the acts and not the performers, cause if your act has 30 people in it, you might be going home with a quarter...and not that kind of quarter)...if we sell out the show, that means a hundred bones per act and if you are a solo performer that is not a bad chunk of change for a ten min performance...and we encourage tips....and drinking...if you are still reading this, you might be remotely interested, so i will go on with the what, where, when, and how.
To choose acts and to schedule them to a particular day of performance, there will be a day of act "auditions". And although I believe all of you are brilliant (if you weren't, you would not be getting this email), the hosts of this variety act (Marvin Quijada and Nathan Paul) need to see a complete act so they know that a.) you didnt for some reason just go down to india, contract dysentery, pooped your pants for a week, slapped some bit together that was actually stolen from the indian that you contracted dysentery from and pawned it as your own and b.) what day and what part of the rotation your act will fit in best. So bring your game! Your act can be anything that fits in the variety category...THE DAY TO REMEMBER IS: AUGUST 23rd! Time: Between 7-11p. Location: Prop Thtr 3504 N. Elston! A contraption that plays CD or iPOD will be available.
what? What? WHAT to do next???? Email Marvin, Nathan and me at marvin_dances_oddly@yahoo.com; nap3369@yahoo.com; and tonika@silenttheatre.com respectively with your name and you will be emailed back a time slot. Feel free to forward this on to folks who might find this to be their cup of tea...but beware we got six weeks of 7 acts, which if i did my math in second grade correctly, means we got 42 acts altogether! You can come with several acts if you want, which umps your chances for more appearances on different nights.
And finally, the "why"....why? why the fuck not?! Cause we're whores for the real performance! Cause we want to do it for ourselves! Cause we wanna do it for each other! Cause we wanna make a few bucks! Cause theatre can simply be entertaining and nothing else! Cause we can! Cheers, Mr. Obama! We got the bug in us, too.
Cheers,
tonika
P.S. Besides all this hoopla, we'll have after hours band nights on friday and saturday night starting at 11:30. Dancing strongly suggested. No cover, but we'll sell real cheap booze. If you know any bands (that are good), have them email or call me at 773.544.1749. I already have some of the night booked, but perhaps your musically inclined friends will have some free dated that coincide with ours.
