I was involved with Harvard and Radcliffe Alumni/ae Against Apartheid, the group that successfully campaigned to elect Desmond Tutu to the Board (and later fell short with a candidate named Barack Obama). It was an uphill battle, somewhat like "The Solid Gold Cadillac," and everything from the petition form to ballot placement was stacked in favor of the official candidates. It's not called a corporation for nothing. All we can do is try.

Here is a beautifully written account of the early days of ROTC at Harvard, written earlier this spring by Brian Wright O'Connor (Harvard '78). Find him on FB. http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/opinion/x1096997451/OConnor-Harvards-ROTC-pioneer

ROTC has as much "right" on a campus as any other non-academic org. Credit is not indicated, any more than credit for any other society, but the denial of access is also unbalanced. ROTC should not be subsidized by the university any more, or any less than any other third party org. I, too, remember this debate from 40 years ago.

Where can I find details on your platform? Do you have any write-ups on what would make you a better candidate than the others, i.e. what they are currently doing wrong? I also could not seem to find a link to the petition rules -- how many signatures were required?
