Sir Ralph, I remember you giving out chances to students to pass sonnets para remembrance pagka-graduation. I never passed and yet you told me that I could write. That was the first push I needed and I'm thankful for that. Not only do you teach literature, but you're one great teacher when it comes to building confiden...ce.

1993, I missed my first day of class. Joi Borja told me I didn't miss anything or that there was no homework. I showed up on the second day only to find out we were supposed to memorize Housman's "When I was one-and-twenty". You gave me a chance the next day, not to write it down- but to recite it in front of the class...! That was a fair 'punishment'- got no grudge, far from it in fact. That was the the best English class I ever had! I never really had an interest in Literature until you came along. If not for you, I would not have let my 5 yr old niece memorize Macbeth's "Tomorrow-and tomorrow" piece. She's 17 now; her english teacher was very impressed when she recited it out of the blue! Pay it forward, right? SY 1993-94 was quite an English Lit joyride! 'Tis true, 'tis true.Read More
