Skeletica is a Dark humored comic series about a funky teenage skeleton that always dreamt to be a famous fashion model; after all she is skinny enough to be so! Skeletica “lives” in a modern cemetery, called Necropolis, with her family (an overprotective mother, a hippie Grandmother, a typical older brother and a smart ass young sister) and a bunch of “exotic” friends. Skeletica’s comics just prove that life after death is not that different…

Skeletica was created in 1987 and has been my main project for some years now.

Here's a wee bit of my journey in the comics' industry (including a bit of my life too!)

My name is Horton Novak, I was born in Brasilia – Capital of Brazil and I'm a Cartoonist, Illustrator, graphic designer and creator of Skeletica.

Since I was very young I always loved to draw, and as old as five years old I had fun drawing (to my mom surprise) the characters of my favourite comic books. It Wasn’t a surprise for my parents that when I was 12, I had my own character galleries (that numbered more than 200 characters in 14 different series), and that I was publishing my stories and comic strips in Fanzines and school newspapers.
 
Another one of my passions was the supernatural, I love everything related to vampires, ghosts, zombies and other ghouls. I could hear my father telling Ghost stories for hours, even if it was the same old story or watching (without my mother permission) horror movies (of course I would jump in her bed after…but too late…). Sometimes I had the feeling that I had born in the wrong country because in Brazil, a country of sun and beaches Halloween didn’t make a lot of sense!
However, I stuck to my passions…In 1986, I created a story called the “Comic Ghosts” that was a mix of traditionally scary characters and funny plot lines, where crazy zombies, stupid monster and Ghosts were sharing their afterlife in a cemetery.  I didn’t know yet but it was the birth of Skeletica.

In 1987, I created a new character for one of the comic ghost fanzines, in that story a colourful skeleton moves in the Purple kiss's Mausoleum Hotel, changing  everything around… To make a long story short (after all,  you can read all details in the Mausoleum Hotel section on Skeletica Official website) that was the first appearance of "Borboveira" a character that would be in the future renamed as Skeletica.
In Brazil, Skeletica has been published several times in a book format (Check the publications at Mausoleum Hotel in the Skeletica.com) and in 1996 was as well  one of the first brazilian comic characters to have a Webcomics with regular updates.
In 2004, I debuted as a theater author when the stage play "Skeletica and The Cereal Killer’s girl" had premiere. The play ran in Brazil until 2006. (See pictures here)
Meanwhile, I had moved to Sydney, Australia in 2005 to start a new chapter in Skeletica’s journey and fullfill an old dream of mine,  to publish Skeletica in English.
In 2007, I became a proud member of the Australian Cartoonist Association.
Since 31 Oct of 2008, I have been publishing  the new adventures of Skeletica’s in English online at Skeletica.com and at the Webcomics Nation network.
