Sydney Thank you for hosting the H1N1 vaccine clinics! We're not from Skokie but desperately needed the vaccine for our 10-month-old son. We went today and it couldn't have been any easier. Great job!

As news of the plan to pluck the giant apple from the roof of the food court at Westfield Old Orchard mall in Skokie spreads, shoppers seem divided on whether the big fruit is an icon or eyesore.

Have you been to the food court lately? I am not sure what they mean by upscale. There should be affordable food and services. But the food court was a depressing shambles with the most depressing, pathetic, bleak train ride I have ever seen in my life. It looked like a ride to which you would send a child to punish him, but that would get you arrested for emotional abuse in 2009.

I used to work at the mall...it's on its last leg. No one goes there anymore for anything other than the Macy's, Nordstrom, or restaurants.

Sam Kudos to the Skokie Police, who are now having "Roll Call" in various neighborhoods. as part of a campaign to work with residents and be present in order to reduce crime.. I am so excited about this concept!!!!! I feel much safer after this recent crime spree right in the area I live... They are really out there trying... to work with the people to keep neighborhoods safe and orderly!!!

GO SKOKIE!!!!

When students return to Arie Crown Hebrew Day School in Skokie in two weeks, they may be greeted by yard signs protesting expansion plans, marking a summer of discontent between the fast-growing Orthodox Jewish elementary school and its neighbors. If the expansion includes a big parking lot and good pick-up/drop-off flow, there is no problem.

Fix the facades, spruce up the signs and recruit new businesses, especially restaurants, and they will come downtown. Or so Skokie hopes. Now the downtown looks like the dowdy cousin to the vibrant Old Orchard Shopping Center, less than 3 miles to the north. With vacant storefronts, aging buildings ...

A three-block cluster of homes near Golf Avenue is in the path of the proposed elevated line. Richard Sher doesn't like the idea that trains will be passing his normally quiet home.

If you follow the line on google maps, they almost have a clear route to Lake street in Glenview... THat would boost the workforce that could park and ride from the north shore area.... I am glad they are going to do this on the weekends too as I would go downtown if I didn't have to pay for metered parking

Y'know, I guess I would have realized this had I bought the house I was looking at there... It's like all of the people where I grew up in Schiller Park, who moved there and then "bitch" about the airplane noise... PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS!!!
