I am a British, Yoga Alliance Certified, Yoga instructor and have recently relocated to Malta from Prague. My classes centre on emphasising the principles of Yin Hatha Yoga. However I tailor my classes to suit daily needs, requirements and requests. Classes are taught in English, but all are welcome.
The original styles of physical (Hatha) yoga were very "yin" in nature, that is, passive, long held stretches. Over the last two hundred years the style of yoga has changed, mainly through western influence, to become very "yang" like. The focus of Hatha yoga has shifted, to lots of emphasis on energising practices and building muscular strength. This type of yoga can be very beneficial but like all things in life, in order to find health and happiness, balance is necessary.
As modern lifestyles are characteristically very yang in nature: fast-paced, driven and active, the yoga that I teach and practice centres on emphasising the "yin" qualities of peace, calm and stillness. For more information see the Yin Yoga page.

I have practised various forms of yoga since 2000 and Buddhist meditation since 2005.
I became interested in Yoga originally, as most people do, as a means to relaxation. As I explored Yoga further, I realised that its scope reached far beyond this.
I became interested in Yin Yoga specifically after a vigorous marathon and half-marathon training schedule left my muscles and joints feeling very tight, stiff and fatigued. This affected my asana and meditation practice, especially when done straight after a run. I found that long held, passive stretches not only eased my post-training physical strain and tension, but transformed my attitude towards exercise, as well as wider life. Yin Yoga practice thus enhanced my meditation practice both physically and mentally.
I completed my initial Yoga Alliance teacher training at Prague School of Yoga in April 2007. The training was based on the Classical School of Yoga, that is, Patanjali's eight-limbed yoga, from which Hatha Yoga, and the various modern schools of Hatha, later evolved.
Since then I have continued to study anatomy, yoga theory and eastern philosophy in depth. Most especially I have sought to deepen my understanding and experience of Yin Yoga, Taoism, meridian theory, holistic health/healing, nutrition and the Theravada Buddhist Vipassana meditation technique.
I teach Yoga as I would like to share the benefits I have received over the years from the ancient art with others. I believe that the Buddhist meditation techniques fit harmoniously with the practice of Yin Yoga, and thus I try to incorporate these in my classes where beneficial.
