Slowpoke Comics This week's strip: questionable band practices

I love it! Your strips about the horrendous or banal aspects of our culture are as great as your political ones. (Also avoidable are the bands whose names brandish how ineffectual they are--Frightened Rabbit seems to be the nadir of that trend, I hope.)

Chris: I post the strip to my site on Monday, but Tuesday is the day I usually get around to mentioning it on Web 2.0.

Tim: Thanks. Don't tell me there's actually a band called Frightened Rabbit!

Also interesting is what happens to the women who do make it into entertainment, but who then make the unfortunate decision to age. I think they're shipped off to The Village. Julia Roberts is the new Number Two, I believe.

Slowpoke Comics I interviewed Tom Tomorrow for Campus Progress:

Like many readers of alternative comics, I first discovered This Modern World as a college student. I was working a summer job at the library, earning minimum wage and vacuuming dust bunnies, when my boss showed me a strip by some guy calling himself Tom Tomorrow. ...

Slowpoke Comics I'm featured in a FAIR Extra! cover story about the endangered state of alternative comics. Good interviews with several of my favorite cartoonists: http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=3915

It took years for cartoonist Dan Perkins, aka Tom Tomorrow, to syndicate his comic strip This Modern World in alternative weekly newspapers. But in just one afternoon, his career was knee-capped. Last January, the company

Damn....some of the most innovative American cartoonists depend heavily on the alternative weeklies. It's hard to see where all of this going.

In our case, our cartoons appeared in the union and labor press for years, but that hardly exists anymore. We have to figure out some kind of alternative also.

If anybody has any bright ideas, now would be a good time.

The Obama plan is so mild to begin with, one wonders what these people would do if confronted with the possibility of a real national health plan. They don't seem capable of telling the difference, so probably the reaction would be the same.

rather depressing how successful the brainwashing campaign has been in our country. It's as if the "company towns" of the past were a good thing and we want to sustain the indentured servant culture. so many easily led sheep going over the cliff and we're going over with them....
