Snohomish Community Church wants to know: "Do we have anyone who knows how to do C- and C++ programing? And is good at it?"

Well Wayne and I touched down in New Orleans about 5 something in the evening and have been having a blast. The plane was a brilliant ride complete with 2 inches of executive legroom (I could only use 1 inch, I can't imagine how people could use so space) and bags of peanuts that were packed by small squirrels in a ver...y small room on a tiny island of Peru. They must have to use highly skilled squirrels (probably former surgeons) to do the work, because I can't see otherwise how anyone could shove 5 peanuts so carefully into a bag the size of my pinky toe.
Concerned about our safety I prepped myself, as you will see in the video that I included.
In transit, we ran into John Piper and his posse of tweed jacket packing high fiving white guys. There must be something magnetic about Wayne and I traveling together, because the last time we traveled, we ran into John Piper in Phoenix, AZ and then the year before that I sat next to him in his own talk. We have concluded that Piper maybe stalking me, but there is no proof.
When we got to New Orleans, or as I affectionally call it "NO" ("Noooooooooooooo"...inside joke), we rushed to find a shuttle bus and managed to end up on what must have been Sly and the Family Stone's former touring bus, complete with neon lights, wet bar and disco groove (Wayne took a picture to attest our blessedness in being on this fine ride). After we found our groove, we got of the shuttle and arrived at the Sheraton, which is where most of the ETS events are happening all week. The room was pretty posh, however, my heart broke to discover that the on-site Starbucks is only open until 5pm...5PM!!! Really?! Didn't they realize that people from Washington were coming, not to mention all the pastors and theological teachers. We live on caffeine...helps compensate the sun we seldom see. NO has grossly underestimated the capacity that I have to consume caffeine. I will have to write the local representative.
We got ourselves registered and then hooked up with Doug Powell (speaker from Jesus University 2009) and his pastor and did dinner at Momma's, which was some pretty amazing food and had a pleasant atmosphere. Never before had I been to a restaurant where servers were so informally light about letting you know that they really didn't want you there and it is a rare treat to be threatened by a cop to eat or get out of the shop. Momma's must be proud indeed.
By far the best bit was going to Cafe Du Monde, where we had the famed Beignets and Coffee and Chicory. Really brilliant food. I highly recommend going. And once again the Louisiana hospitality ran true as Doug was scolded by a Chinese server for attempting to move his own cup of hot chocolate, before he had give Doug the ok to do it. Apparently there are rules about when you get to eat your own food down here and I am so new to the customs, I wasn't much help to Doug. However, I can appreciate that Cafe Du Monde has created a real niche market for late night servers that must have been recruited from the retiring staff of Wal-Mart greeters. The 1/2 pounds of powdered sugar on each beignets must lend to an extended longevity in one's mortality in NO. I would argue the coffee is good enough that I could honestly understand why Starbucks closed at 5pm. Cafe Du Monde is open 24 hours and for this I praise Jesus. Should one open in Seattle or anywhere near it in the great Northwest, I may have to take a weekend retreat to myself and weep joyfully for several days.
Thanks for all your prayers. Tomorrow’s papers look solid with Francis Beckwith and Paul Copan presenting. By far the most interesting may be the paper being presented by Philip Congdon, "John Piper's Diminished Doctrine of Justification and Assurance." I'm not sure if John Piper is going to show up, but if he does, the Q & A time might become legendary
Until tomorrow...
Good Night Snohomish.

Just a quick reminder that we have a Student Leadership Meeting this week. By the grace of Nathan, you will have two more weeks until you need to have completed reading How To Win Friends and Influence People. Please pack your own lunch, we will not be providing any food this round.
Be prepared to discuss pros and co...ns of the Halloween Party, talk about Voices coming up, as well as strategize out the theme for the Winter Retreats.

For The Forge's first P3 night, we have Billy North coming in to do a jam session for us, share a little bit about God and his life and have a great time with all of us.
P3 stands for: "Pray, Pursue, Persuade" and the goal is for all of us to pray for one friend to invite, pursue that friend over the month and invite t...hem to the P3 night, where there will be a different musician or professional athlete doing their stuff and sharing about their testimony. Each night will be solid top notch, so you don't have to worry about if your friends will like it.
So start praying and start inviting.
See you there!!!

Snohomish Community Church Part of the Acts series, in "Tremendous Love" we'll see exactly what God expects of us and a whole lot of stuff that you might be surprised to find out he doesn't.

Facts: #1: Yes, this counts as community service, so if you have a paper that needs filling out for school, bring it with you.
