This event benefits The Blues Foundation www.blues.org
The "Blues", America's own creation and tradition, is at the heart of our cultural identity. Unfortunately, its importance in music history is sometimes overlooked and the opportunity for its creators to pass on this tradition to future generations is slipping away.... Many Blues pioneers are struggling to make a living through their art, as most opportunities for these artists have evaporated in our increasingly homogenized culture.
The Congressional Blues Festival is an effort to help keep this great American tradition alive and honor and assist those who helped create it. The Congressional Blues Festival's mission is dedicated to giving back to American Roots Music by raising money and awareness for organizations that directly support artists in need. Over the last 5 years, the Congressional Blues Festival has raised approximately $1 million to support this mission. Thanks to all our sponsors, fans, volunteers, and supporters who have joined us on this journey.

Big Ron Hunter and Sol perform a special concert at 6th and Vine, both giving back to their hometown Winston Salem, having traveled across the world sharing their music ....
Big Ron and Sol have performed together at many events through out the US, and are recently back from festivals in Maine and Columbia Missouri.
Big Ron is a Winston Salem musical mainstay, having performed at many venues throughout the Triad area, working at Stevens Center, and recently touring Europe with Music Maker Relief Foundation. As a youth, Big Ron apprenticed to the great Carolina Bluesman Guitar Gabriel, and went on to create his own blues style. King Bee Blues Review says Big Ron brings a “gritty guitar, exhuberant vocals, and a down-home spirit”
Sol also was deeply influenced by Guitar Gabriel while growing up in the Winston Salem area. Sol has gone on to perform as a part of Music Maker Revue all over the world, even bringin his own unique blues hiphop performance to festivals in France. Sol, influenced by the younger generation of music, creates a mix of funk, reggae, blues, and rock focusing on the roots of each style. Sol leads his own band up and down the east coast US, performing a music festivals, wine festivals, and venues. “Sol lays down a heavy groove” says Tim Duffy of Music Maker “Sol tears out rock, funk, blues, and reggae delivered with deep soul.”
Sol's band includes George Penn (drummer for Sol, Corey Harris, Jah Works, and others) and Jake D (bassist with Sol, Non-Profits, and Cyrus Pace Jazz).
