There are few things in life that go better together than fresh snow and sun. Luckily, I live in Salt Lake City where I get to experience this combination more often than not. For those of you who don’t live in Salt Lake City, I apologize.

Solitude Mountain Resort Apex Express is open! This brings our totals to 3 lifts and 3 runs. Those of you who've been taking advantage of the smooth groomers lower on the hill over the past few days will notice we've been blowing snow up on Sunshine Bowl in hopes of getting Eagle up and running as soon as we can.

No, Solitude does not offer sleigh rides. We have a snowcat shuttle during the holidays and a (human powered) chariot available for rent in our nordic center. The sleigh rides over in PC I hear are fun though!

Solitude Mountain Resort With the final bolts tightened, tests passed and chairs hung, Utah’s
largest on-mountain improvement for the upcoming season is ready for
action - Powderhorn II.
Who is stoked?

PH II starts near the bottom of Sunshine Bowl, travels above
a widened Concord ski run, and ends in the same location as the
original Powderhorn Lift.... Some terrain improvements at the top terminal
allow Diamond Lane to start right at the top terminal - no more
crossing the road to get to the other side. Skiers left - towards Eagle
Ridge - has been graded eliminating the off-camber double fall line
mogul field to access gentler terrain. I think you will enjoy a
smoother and quicker transition from riding the lift to making turns.

Wish there was actually some snow to ski it, and personally the old lift was so much better!

There are many negatives... Less vert, more intermediate skiers on PH lift, more tracks, WAY less available terrain when lapping PH, need to ride 2 lifts from the base to top of PH.... Arrrrgh! Elimintating the fun cat track jump right below the top of PH sucks too. Who is stoked? Not me sir...Not me.

Solitude opened for the season this past Friday on the 6th of November. They currently have two runs open with good snow coverage. No core shots for Solitude skiers :) It suprised me how awkward it felt to make that first run. ...
