I was ambivalent about seeing the movie, because I do not like to be a part of something that makes fun of people who are just doing their thing, but something told me it was probably going to be more than another bad reality TV show. I had bought a pass for the SFIndiefest that gave me one free movie ticket, so I used the extra ticket for Song Sung Blue, hedging my bets.
Well, I was totally blown away by the movie...While there are some aspects of the film that seem very odd, putting the viewer in a position of judgement, it quickly turns into something deeper and funnier and more serious. It is a very candid "fly on the wall" perspective of a husband and wife struggling to make ends meet while pursuing their dreams of stardom. My entire row, at The Roxie theater in San Francisco, cried watching the film. I highly recommend Song Sung Blue.

I saw this movie in Saugatuck at the Waterfront Film Fest. I was sobbing through half of the movie because I empathized so much with their struggles, heartache and joy. Americans have such a skewed image of what talent should look like, that real people with real talent have to work twice as hard to get anywhere. I didn't know much about Pearl Jam either, and now see Eddie Vedder as a total class act. I'm so glad that I got the opportunity to speak to Claire after the movie. What a sweet and inspiring lady!
