Niambis Matthews
I just finished listening to 'Sophie's parlor' today. I think I may have tuned in before
but the reason I tuned in today was a music friend of mine said to me.." Niambis
that's your music community". He was oh so right I've been playing guirtar for about
twenty+ years never had any formal lessons on guitar, but it's the ...instument that expresses me. Steve said "I hear you there". I loved your show. I wasn't meaning to
say all that. The last song on the show today was someone singing to an acoustic
guitar. What is the song? It was beautiful. Ok life gets so busy time is short
but I'm making myself a promise right now. We will get connected. I've been
playing 'Sophie's Parlor' music and I never met you. I'm so glad your there. At my next open Mic tues 24th I'll wanna sing that guitar song you played @ end your show I can't believe it, was like 'music' old home week. Where has 'Sophie's Parlor" been all my life?Read More

Sophie's Parlor
Join me as I host Sophie's Parlor this Thursday from 1-3 pm on WPFW. The show theme will be focused on verbal and emotional abuse. Physical violence is often focused on in domestic abuse situations, to the exclusion of verbal and emotional abuse, which can be just as harmful. Musical selections will be about both ph...ysical and verbal abuse, but the topic for discussion will not focus on physical abuse.
My co-host will be the Rev. Dr. Michele Balamani. "Dr. B" is a psychotherapist, & an ordained minister. She is founding director of Baraka & Associates Counseling & Wellness Services. We will talk about the music, abuse, and her book "Dancing ON Our Graves: Healing the Hearts & Souls of Women." She will give away copies of the book live on air.
Hope you can tune in!

The history of Sophie's Parlor is inextricably entwined with the history of women's music. The genre of women's music began in the early 1970's and was launched by many of the women who started the radio show, Sophie's Parlor, at Georgetown University's WGTB. ...
