The block parties are a little more localized. However, for anything neighborhood-wide I do try to post them in advance as an event.

Also, you could also follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/Southampton_STL. Although you need to be a bit more spontaneous as the lead time is shorter for the tweets.

The Macklind Business District is pleased to announce “Macklind Fall Food Fest.” This fall fund-raising event will take place on Saturday, October 24th, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the wedge on Hampton and Murdoch.

At the Food Fest, you will be able to enjoy BBQ and Beer while listening to live music, apple bobbing,... pumpkin decorating, winning raffles and more. Proceeds from your purchases benefit the Macklind Business District and allow the district to put on such events as the popular “Macklind Days.”

As part of the events, from noon to 3:30 p.m. there will be a Chili & Cornbread Cook-off. If you’ve got a killer chili recipe or cornbread, or both, you need to participate. Stand up and be recognized for you superb culinary skill! You can win by “Crowd Pleasing” or by judgment of three mystery judges. Attendees will be able to sample the contestants’ chili and/or cornbread for a small donation and “vote” for their favorites by purchasing a portion of their favorite for a set price. The Crowd Pleaser will be the competitor that raises the most money with their chili/cornbread.
