Southern Environmental Law Center A recent N.C. Supreme Court ruling opens season on N.C. trout streams for golf course developers--allowing a country club to raze forested buffers along trout streams and permanently enclose a mountain stream within a pipe despite a state law requiring “undisturbed” buffers to protect trout streams and water quality.

In a loss for N.C. trout, water quality and sportsmen, the N.C. Supreme Court ruled six to one that a country club golf course's razing of forested buffer areas along sensitive trout sreams and permanent enclosure of a N.C. mountain stream was allowed despite a state law requiring "undisturbed" buff...

Southern Environmental Law Center Almost four years of litigation today resulted in an agreement to sharply reduce air pollution associated with the port in Charleston, S.C. and ensure accommodations for rail at its new terminal instead of relying on more trucks using commuter routes.

The S.C. State Ports Authority and the Coastal Conservation League today reached a settlement on various lawsuits over the SPA’s new container terminal and an access road to it.

Southern Environmental Law Center EPA today rejected the “climate-gate” issue and stuck to its findings that global warming pollution endangers human health. Climate skeptics had petitioned EPA to change its ruling; they also filed suit against the agency. SELC is intervening in that lawsuit.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today denied 10 petitions challenging its 2009 determination that climate change is real, is occurring due to emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities, and threatens human health and the environment.

Southern Environmental Law Center Massive interstate project in Charleston SC would ruin wetlands, bring sprawl to rural communities, degrade air and water quality - and not relieve traffic congestion; SELC responds to environmental report from SCDOT.

The draft report released today by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, which describes the environmental impacts of the proposed Mark Clark Expressway, fails to consider alternatives that are far less harmful and less costly than building a major interstate through communities, open-spa...

So David and Dottie, where in this post does it say anything about Bonner Bridge? As far as I know there's no Bonner Bridge in Charleston, SC. Are you two trolling and trying to take over this post? Not going to happen. This is about SC not... NC! And I'm so confused, where in any part does it state that SELC doesn't want Bonner Bridge replaced? What it states is that they, along with many other groups, want a safer option and they state their option and why this option would be much better for the people and the environment. At some point the opposition must learn to read before posting such misleading propaganda.See More

Southern Environmental Law Center A decision by a federal appeals court in New Orleans leaves open the door to staying any new deepwater drilling in the Gulf if needed while the court expedites hearing the merits of the federal moratorium case in the beginning or August or September.

A federal appeals court rejects the Obama administration's request to keep a six-month moratorium on deep-water oil drilling in place while it mounts a legal defense of the ban, imposed after the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
