hi to all out there i'm sorry if this comes off to offend anyone because I do not mean to and if this is inapprioate please feel free to let me know but i'm a single mom on welfare of 1 darling 5 year old boy who was recently diagnosed with DSI (sensory intergration) and they gave him a weighted vest in school to use a...nd met with great results, I would like one to be able to use at times when we go to church and other family outings but can't afford $100 for it and i spoke wiith the school they said the one in the school must stay there as its the school's property. Does anyone out there have a XS small or medium weighted vest that their child has grown out of that they are not using if so I would be very grateful and blessed to use it for this difficult time. thanksRead More

Alice, if you have a sporting goods store nearby you can look to see if they have weight vests that have removable weights. Find out the weight your son is using and then you can use it and I think they tend to run around $35. I do not know how large your son is, so you may have to see if the store can order one small enough for you. But it is worth checking out.

In Oklahoma they have a disabled child's program through DHS that provides medical and therapy equipment to low-income families. You might see if your state office offers something like that

check to see if your child qualifies for any regional progreams as well as state run ones, that is what my son has now. with budget cuts, every little bit helps. he has medical, far northern regional center and CCS, try something along thos lines. good luck!
