Wanted: A compromise between a historic mailbox original to a home and the mailbox requirements of the U.S. Postal Service.....The Trust recently ran into a dilemma during our recent preparation to rent a remodeled home in the Hampton Heights Historic District...

Put it back on as an historic element and leave the new mailbox. This one looks exactly like the one at my dad's house now, but its not in use anymore as mom years before her passing put out a new box when she thought they were going to have to get a streetside one, now the streetside one is beside the front steps and the historic box is at the top. Oh, his house dates to 1952 so if you didn't have a date on the box there is an about date for you.
