Just back from Oland - off the east coast of Sweden - a great place to watch migration. Thousands of Eiders and Barnacle Geese were passing and thousands of Goldcrests - so tame they were landing on us! Also, how this crazy combination... Steppe Eagle (from Soviet Union) Sabine's Gull (from Arctic) and Buff-breaste...d Sandpiper (from N America) Can't think where else you would ever see them together! Roy (Guide)Read More

Speyside Wildlife News just in from the Steading ... on Wednesday this week our guests were woken in the night by the squeaking sounds of a Pine Marten running across the roof! A large amount of Pine Marten scat found in the grounds next morning confirmed the suspicion. Not only that, but a week earlier a male Capercaillie had been seen right outside the Steading in full display! You can't get much better than that!

Speyside Wildlife Another busy week of activity at our hide with two Pine Martens, six Badgers and deer. Remember the hide is open over the winter season, so please visit our website www.speysidewildlife.co.uk or call us at the office on 01479 812498 to check availability and opening hours.

The female Common Hawker was seen egg laying at the pond and on further investigation a larva was found along with an adult that had emerged that morning. The previous highest recorded dragonfly breeding in Scotland was at 2125ft.

Speyside Wildlife During our morning meeting this morning we spied the first dusting of white on the tops of the Cairngorms ... winter is definitely on it's way...

Speyside Wildlife At our hide we have had five Badgers each evening recently. All feeding frantically, laying down fat for winter. One or two Pine Martens coming in also but wary of the Badgers, and with very thick fur now, for the winter. They are also burying the eggs for later. Red deer hinds, calves and Pipistrelle bats also showing up.

Ruth Just got home from the first ever Speyside Wildlife's Ladies Week. Chrissie and Sharon gave us the time of our lives.
