The Westcott House
Collaboration between The Westcott House Foundation and the Dayton Regional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) School has resulted in a unique exhibition featuring cardboard furniture designed and built by students for specific rooms in Frank Lloyd Wright’s Westcott House. This project began during... three days of the Dayton Regional STEM School’s Summer Orientation in July. The students learned about Frank Lloyd Wright’s organic architecture and the Westcott House itself, along with several identified needs for specific furniture pieces for individual rooms in the museum. From there students worked in small groups to brainstorm the best solutions, ultimately constructing life-size prototypes using cardboard, glue and a power jig saw. The finished products were evaluated by a jury who selected the exhibit pieces to be on display.
Located in Beavercreek, the Dayton Regional STEM School is one of 10 public STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) schools being created across Ohio, offering students a relevant, real world educational experience which will prepare them for college and opportunities in the work world – in essence, a springboard for developing and maintaining the Dayton region’s talent base. Its first class of ninth-grade students from across Clark, Greene and Montgomery counties, come from 20 of the 30 school districts in those counties. The Dayton Regional STEM will expand by two grades each year, ultimately serving grades 6-12. For more information, go to www.daytonstemschool.org.

The Westcott House
"Ridgewood - In the Country Club District"
By Tami Dallenbach, Public Historian, The Turner Foundation
In 1916 the talk of the town was the new residential development – Ridgewood. Located near the increasingly fashionable Springfield Country Club, Ridgewood was the first restricted subdivision in Springfield. Nationa...lly prominent real estate tycoon Harry S. Kissell traveled the country and studied the nation’s best upscale suburbs before laying out his picturesque new neighborhood. Come and learn about the history, residents, and architecture of this charming early twentieth-century suburb.
