Camp St. Vincent is a summer day camp for children from households experiencing homelessness or poverty in Baltimore City and County. At Camp St. Vincent, children ages 6 to 10 are given the opportunity to experience the joys of two weeks at summer camp in the open space and fresh air of the countryside. The children w...ho attend are nominated from Baltimore area schools, churches, and social service agencies, and are accepted into the program without regard to race, religion, or nationality. Over 60% of the children who attend are homeless, and the Camp's services are specifically geared to meet the needs of this vulnerable population.
Camp St. Vincent offers a structured outdoor recreation program that includes swimming instruction, arts and crafts, singing, reading and math, games, sports, nature exploration, and other traditional camping activities. The children also participate in daily Values Development Lessons, which strive to boost self-esteem, teach the children to resist negative peer pressure, and encourage them to "DO THE RIGHT THING" - the Camp St. Vincent theme. A multitude of activities provide the children with many new experiences in an atmosphere where sharing, cooperation, fairness, and respect are emphasized.
The 2009 Camp St. Vincent season will take place June 22 through August 14, 2009.
Sponsor a child to attend Camp St. Vincent:
Camp St. Vincent receives annual support from individuals, church groups, corporations, and private foundations that sponsor children to attend each summer. The number of sponsors determines how many children attend each year, and additional sponsors are always needed.
