Loretta Kisch Martin What is the most effective way to weight flagpoles (6 foot aluminum) for spinning and tossing?

        • Tim Patton long bolt in top, short bolt in bottom.

        • Loretta Kisch Martin Thanks. Would that be 2 inches on top? and 1 inch on bottom?

        • Color Guard Educators There is an article on weighting poles on the main site too for more info. We usually have to play with it depending on the silk - so I purchase a variety of weights in different sizes, set up a few poles and then do some of the work with the actual flags and choose which feels best.

Darcie Yetter Gudger I need to paint silk flags (real silk, not poly china). My design has clouds and sky. When I went to the dye store, I saw that dyes spread. A lot. The guy suggested batik (which is the melting of wax which can be laborious for my project). What kind of non-spreading paints that have bold colors can be used on silk? I'm... looking online at Dharma trading and there are tons. Don't know what I need. Help? What works for you or doesn't work?

Darcie Yetter Gudger Any Cadets alum from 1992 who have an image/picture of the closer flag from that year? I was told to take a look at it for inspiration for my opener. I need to paint a flag to look like the sky with and without clouds (some flags with, some without).

          Amanda Jane Gilanyi

Amanda Jane Gilanyi I'm a little desperate for help here. Our district instituted a $200 activity fee for students this year. The due date for fall activities is August 1. Our band camp, which runs the third week of August, costs approximately $250. We have a few fundraisers in place, but they are long-term. I need ideas on fundraisers we... can do within the next 4-5 weeks to help offset the financial burden for our students and parents. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Avon has some good fundraiser ideas. You can host an online event and the kids can get friends and family to order online and the products direct ship to customers, or there are some specific ones where you can earn up to 50% profit. Bug gu...ard and the bath and body products fundraiser sheets are great for summer. Customers pay less from the students than they would in the brochure. I've done the fundraiser w/ another guard and will be doing it with mine. I'm also an Avon rep. Let me know if you have questions. You can find a local rep as well who does fundraisers. Turn around time is as little as 2 weeks.See More

Amanda Jane Gilanyi Help some drum corps win $20,000 by voting in this! You can vote 20 times for different organizations, so I voted for as many DCI corps as I could! My personal goal is to help Jersey Surf get into the top 200 (they need 500 votes). The voting ends Monday.

Chase Community Giving is back to give away another $5 million, and you help decide which 200 local charities receive donations. Just search, vote, and share your enthusiasm with your friends. It's a new Way Forward for giving.

                • Julie Noble Baldwin Is it weird that even though my guard doubled in size this season, my success is that the guard did a band camp skit? LOL They've never been super involved in the band as a whole, always did their own thing (but complained that they weren't accepted or respected by the band - and they truly weren't - neverending cycle and all that). But they did THE BEST skit this year and the band kids cheered, laughed and applauded for them. I was thrilled/proud as a peacock. :)
