Franciscan University of Steubenville Summer Conferences "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth, we have beheld His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father." - John 1:14

Everything’s relative. All religions are basically the same. If it feels right, do it.

Those are messages teens hear every day. They hear them at school, in the car on t...he radio, and in the shows they watch on television. They can hear them from their friends, their teachers, sometimes even from their parents.

But those messages are not true: They’re lies. Everything is not relative. All religions are not the same. And right and wrong are not matters of individual preference. There is one God, one truth, one moral law for everyone. We know that not because God sent some book down from heaven, but because he himself came down from heaven. The Word became flesh. God eternal took for himself a human face. He became one of us in all things except for sin, and in doing so, he revealed the limitless love he has for each and every person on this earth. He also revealed that he’s calling us to more than just obedience or even virtue: He’s calling us to receive the gift of his own divine nature, to become the sons and daughters of God.

That’s a radical truth, a truth that teens desperately need to hear. And they’ll hear it this summer at the 2010 Franciscan Youth Conferences. Through a series of dynamic talks, praise and worship, adoration, and most important, through the Sacred Liturgy of the Mass, they will encounter Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. They will encounter the Word made flesh.

This summer, encourage your youth minister to bring a group or bring a group yourself and join 40,000 high school aged youth as they unpack the mysteries and the meaning of the Incarnation.

*NOTE: ONLY GROUP LEADERS CAN REGISTER FOR THIS CONFERENCE. If you are a youth interested in coming to this high energy, crazy fun, thought provoking, friend making event, contact your local parish or diocescan youth minister and tell them to SIGN. YOU. UP!

Franciscan University of Steubenville Summer Conferences "Do not conform yourselves to this age, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect" - Romans 12:2

In our culture, a battle rages. It is a battle for the heart and soul of man, a battle in which the forces of relativism, anti-intelle...ctualism, and atheism have rallied against the forces of truth, charity, and faith.

To this battle, God calls every man and every woman. He asks us not to retreat, not to give up on the culture, but rather to love it, fight for it, and save it.

He also asks us to arm ourselves well for the battle. He asks us not just to believe, but to know why we believe. He asks us not just to love, but to know why we love. He asks for our minds, as well as our hearts, so that he might renew them, transform them, and use them to seek and save the lost.

From July 30 to August 2, 2010, at Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Defending the Faith Conference, you can arm yourself for the battle to which Christ calls you. You’ll learn how to talk with your family, friends, and coworkers about why atheists have it wrong, why the pro-life movement has it right, and why Catholics can indeed have assurance of salvation. You’ll also grow in your understanding of Islam and the challenges it presents, as well as discover how a deeper understanding of the content of the faith can help you better live the life of faith.

In addition to featuring talks by favorite speakers such as Dr. Scott Hahn, Jeff Cavins, and Curtis Martin, this year’s Defending the Faith Conference will welcome Dr. Francis Beckwith, the former president of the Evangelical Theological Society who returned to Catholicism in 2007, as well as Cardinal Justin Rigali of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and many, many other gifted apologists. Through talks and workshops, as well as through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, adoration, praise and worship, quiet prayer, and fellowship, you’ll receive the knowledge and inspiration you need to engage and transform the culture.

This summer, join hundreds of Catholics from around the country, and be renewed in both your heart and mind.

Franciscan University of Steubenville Summer Conferences "And the angel said to me, 'Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.' And he said to me, 'These are true words of God.' " - Revelations 19:9

When it comes to perplexing, no book of the Bible beats the Book of Revelation. Its pages are filled with mysterious depictions of dragons,... supernatural beasts, plagues, judgments, and four horsemen. Strange images and even stranger prophecies greet the reader at every turn.

Even stranger are the ways many modern interpreters explain the Book of Revelation. Some see in it dire warnings for the future. Others see condemnation of the Catholic Church. Others still see it as a relic of the ancient Church, a relic that has no relevance for the Church today.

At the 2010 Applied Biblical Studies Conference, we’ll sift through all the strange and not so strange interpretations of the Book of Revelation to discover what this last book of the Bible is really all about. You’ll learn who the woman of Revelation 12 is and why the Lamb of God stands before the throne of God. You’ll also discover the meaning of the “rapture,” and come to see the book through the lens of the Church’s liturgy.

As in years past, in partnership with the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, Franciscan University will offer participants the choice of attending a series of workshops that will qualify them to present Journey Through Scripture, the St. Paul Center’s exciting Bible study series, in their home parishes.*

This year, participants can choose from three different tracks: “Genesis to Jesus,” “The Bible and the Mass,” and the newest Journey Through Scripture study, “The Bible and Mary.” (First-time participants must complete “Genesis to Jesus” first.) All participants will receive the theological content of the study, as well as the practical training and materials necessary to launch and present the study in their parish. Those choosing to attend these workshops will need to arrive in Steubenville one day earlier than other conference participants. An additional fee of $75 will be added to the cost of registration. Space for these tracks is limited, so those interested in attending should register early.

*Please Note: Some ABS workshops and Journey Through Scripture Track sessions will overlap.

Franciscan University of Steubenville Summer Conferences "This is the will of God - your holiness - 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8

Conference for Youth Ministers, DRE's, Catechists, High School Teachers and those doing RCIA

In this life, our goal is not to be nice. It’s not to please others, be popular, make money, or find fame. Our goal is sainthood. Our goal is holiness. It’s what Go...d wants for us. And it’s what so many forces in our culture are working against.

As catechists and religious educators, we have a two-fold task. The first task is to become holy ourselves. We are to become living witnesses to the truth. Our second task is to help others become holy. It is to introduce them to Jesus and his Church, to teach them truth, and to show them love.

The two tasks cannot be separated. We can’t give to others what we don’t already possess ourselves. We can’t give a love we don’t have. We can’t teach a truth we don’t know.

That’s why, at the 2010 St. John Bosco Conference for Catechists and Religious Educators, you’ll first discover how you can answer God’s call to be holy. You’ll learn what holiness is, what it means to be “set apart,” and how the pursuit of the virtues—theological, cardinal, and human—can bring you closer to sainthood. You’ll also learn how to hand those virtues on to others—to teach about their importance and about the importance of the evangelical counsels in the Christian life.

In addition to the general session talks, there will be more than 30 workshops in the following areas of specialization: adult catechesis, sacramental preparation, family catechesis, youth ministry, Scripture, and liturgy. And as in years past, you can choose from a variety of tracks for certification, including: Catechist Certification, Catechumenal Ministry (RCIA), DRE Certification, and Youth Ministry. There will also be workshops offered especially for High School Teachers in our High School Teachers Symposium.

From July 21-25, 2010, join catechists from around the country and learn how to help yourself and others claim your birthright as Catholics—to be holy as your Father is holy.

Franciscan University of Steubenville Summer Conferences "Proclaiming the Christian faith means only that we are "gripped by him who has touched our hearts and lavished gifts upon us, so that we, in turn, can offer gifts to others' " - Pope Benedict XVI

What does it mean to be a witness? Is it to be someone who speaks the truth? Who acts upon the truth? Believes the truth?

Bei...ng a witness is all those things and more. It is a way of life, an identity. It’s who you are by virtue of your ordination to the priesthood or the diaconate. And it’s how you serve Christ and those he loves in this world.

Your challenge, day in and day out, is to become who you are. It is to become an effective, living witness to the grace and power of Jesus Christ, to become a witness to truth.

At this summer’s Priests, Deacons, and Seminarians Conference, you’ll discover how to become the witness Christ calls you to be in every area of your life. You’ll learn how the heart of witness is discipleship—your own relationship with Christ. You’ll come to understand how Christ can heal and free you from the struggles that have been holding your ministry back. You’ll also receive the tools you need to be a more effective preacher and proclaimer of the Word, as well as come to a deeper appreciation for your role as a healer and a reconciler.

Through a series of challenging talks, inspiring times of prayer and praise, quiet hours of reflection, fellowship, and especially though the sacraments of the Eucharist and confession, you’ll receive the grace, wisdom, and understanding you need to live Christ’s call to witness. You’ll also find the freedom for which you’ve been looking, and “be gripped” by God’s love with greater fervor and devotion.

From June 21-25, 2010, join priests from around the country as you discover how to be a witness to the truth.

Witness to Truth

Franciscan University of Steubenville Summer Conferences "Consecrate them in truth; your word is truth...Father, may they be one in us, as you are in me, and I am in you, so that the world may know that it was you who sent me." - John 17:17 & 21

Our God is a jealous God. He is not content with just a part of our hearts or a part of our lives. He wants it all - all of our love..., all of our devotion, all of ourselves, freely given. He is not, however, a selfish God. When we give him all we have and are, he multiplies that gift, using it, using us, to bless and strengthen others.

At the Religious Sisters Conference, you will discover what it means to be “Freely Given for Love.” You will grow in your understanding of the meaning of consecration, the depths of self-gift it demands, and the blessings it brings. You will also explore the paths to giving yourself more totally and more lovingly—community life, the Eucharist, and the imitation of Mary. Above all, you will grow in your desire to live a life of total consecration, a life of intimacy and communion with your spouse, Jesus Christ.

This summer, join other religious sisters from across the country for inspiring talks, beautiful liturgies, and quiet times of prayer that will help you discover anew the beauty and the gift of consecrated life.

Franciscan University of Steubenville Summer Conferences "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth" - John 16:13

When we know the truth, more than just our minds are transformed. Our spirits and our hearts are transformed as well. Our minds are freed from the lies we’ve come to believe, and our souls are healed from the wounds that have crippled us.... We not only become more capable of proclaiming the truth, but of living it as well. We become witnesses in word and deed to the saving power of God’s love.

But how do we come to know the truth? And how do we find in it the freedom we all desperately need?

The answer is really quite simple. We look to the Spirit who is Truth. We trust in his guidance. And we surrender our minds and hearts to his instruction. We seek him in the sacraments, in the Liturgy, in God’s Word, and in moments of prayer and praise.

This summer at the Catholic Charismatic Conference, you’ll discover how you can more perfectly and more fruitfully seek the Spirit. You’ll hear amazing testimonies of lives that have been freed from hatred and anger by truth. You’ll learn how to grow closer with the Spirit through worship and adoration. You’ll also learn how to better communicate truth to young people and help raise up a new generation of Catholics passionate about the faith and alive in the Spirit.

Through talks and workshops, a powerful healing service led by Dr. William Michell, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and hours of praise and worship, you’ll find truth and the freedom it brings. You’ll also be better equipped to take the truth back into your homes, parishes, and communities, as well as to share it in new and powerful ways, freed from whatever bound you before.

This summer, join Catholics from around the country and be empowered by truth.
