Saturday October 24th - late afternoon
The Troupe:
Stone Soup Improv is an Oakland-based, short form improv troupe that performs monthly shows at the Temescal Arts Center. We are a year and a half old and have built a loyal fan base. All of our 2009 shows have sold out (50-65 people). Our styl...e is a blend of games, and narrative, with an emphasis on innovation. Our focus is entertaining and engaging our audience rather than doing “improv for improvisers”.
We are a cooperative troupe and share different functions across the troupe (marketing, directing, business, website, etc.). This is not “pay to play”group (there are no membership dues.) But we do sometimes pool funds to share in the costs of running the troupe. Currently, ticket sales are covering our expenses.
What we are looking for:
We are very selectively looking to add a few new actors to our troupe. This is both to give us more flexibility around scheduling and to expand the group's skills and knowledge. As the cast expands we may also add additional shows to our once-monthly performance schedule.
We are looking for improvisers who enjoy and excel at narrative-based short form, who can share focus well and most importantly blend in well with our existing cast. We also are looking for individuals who will be committed to Stone Soup and continuing both their own growth as well as that of our troupe. We have two practices, and one show per month. We will likely add new cast members slowly to blend in with the existing troupe.
The audition format:
The audition will be limited to a small number of applicants. Rather than holding formal auditions, we will be doing two hours of improv scenes as a group, (both applicants and troupe members.) Prospective members will then be invited to one of our practices as a next step.
These auditions are by invitation only. please respond to this posting with:
1) Your name?
2) What is your improv experience?
3) How you would describe your “style” as an improviser?
4) What you are looking for in joining a troupe?
5) Have you have seen a Stone Soup show before? When?
IMPORTANT NOTE: Priority will be given to those who have been to one of our shows. Our next show is Saturday October 3rd at 8PM – we want you to understand our style and demonstrate your commitment to joining. If space allows, we will include people in the auditions who have not attended a show, but you would still be required to attend before coming to a practice.
