Happy Tuesday, Straight Goods readers and fans.
This Facebook page was initiated in order to substantially increase the Straight Goods online footprint, and expand the magazine's readership. Therefore, I invite you to help out by doing one or both of the following:
- Tell someone you know, who has never heard of Strai...ght Goods, about this Page, and ask them to "become a fan."
- Participate in the "$IGN UP FOR CASH" draw, and encourage your friends and online associates to do the same. There could be $250.00 in it for you, too!
My goal is to see this page reach 200 members before the week is over, and continue to grow at that pace as Straight Goods' presence on Facebook widens.
Thanks!

How do you convince others to embrace your values? What motivates people to come out to demonstrate with you, to contribute cash, and to vote? What works? What persuades? What doesn't?
On November 14-15, 2008, George Lakoff, whose insights into political framing helped U.S. Democrats rebound, comes to Canada for an excl...usive, small-group symposium, with leaders and strategists of Canada's democratic left – Persuading to Win: 2008, at the Millcroft Inn resort, just west of Toronto.
Dr. Lakoff is the author of the best-seller books Don't Think of an Elephant and Thinking Points. He will speak and work one-on-one with symposium participants to apply his endlessly valuable expertise to their own political organizing and issues campaigns.
Pollster and StraightGoods.ca director, Marc Zwelling, will facilitate the sessions with Lakoff and other guest resources.
Sessions will draw on the experiences of people with proven track records, who will share their best advice and insights with you and other symposium participants.
In November, StraightGoods.ca will build on the valuable lessons learned at its 2006 workshop to present a new symposium. George Lakoff will be back with more advice and a deeper discussion of urgent challenges facing us – privatization, the environmental and economic crises, trade deals, the war in Afghanistan, the challenge to organize against ever tougher corporate opposition.
These critical current issues and more will be up for analysis. You'll get practical, real-world advice that you can use right away in your work. This year's symposium also features experts in fundraising and online campaigning, who will discuss critical lessons in persuasion they have learned and applied.
Millcroft Inn & Spa in Caledon, OntarioThe event will be held at the luxury Millcroft Inn & Spa in Caledon, Ontario. This resort is famous for great food and comfort in a beautiful rural location, and is only half an hour from Pearson International Airport. It's a perfect off-site setting, ideal for provoking the kind of in-depth discussions the Left badly needs – to win.
The special rates StraightGoods.ca has negotiated with Millcroft should tempt you to relax and spend the night. The special Delegation Pack offers free individual accommodation to groups of five (a $1000 value) and is intended to encourage organizations to send colleagues and teams to test-drive their campaigns and communications tactics with the best – George Lakoff.
Registration is limited because Millcroft is an intimate venue, and the calibre of learning we're promising can't occur in a big group or conference. We recommend that you reserve spaces for your organization as soon as possible.
For more information, prices and/or to order spaces at the Persuading to Win: 2008 symposium, please contact us.
