Student Voice Journalism Association of Community Colleges Southern California conference Oct. 23 and 24 at Cal State Fullerton.

Student Voice
Congratulations
to Editor David Lopez and the entire tri-campus Student Voice team for
a very successful performance at the Journalism Association of
Community Colleges Southern California conference Oct. 23 and 24 at Cal
State Fullerton.
The Student Voice team of 20 students came home with 10 total awards,
including the imp...ortant General Excellence designation that denotes
consistent high standards for quality in reporting, photography,
editing and design. See below for a complete list of awards, including
those earned in on-the-spot competitions at the conference and those
earned from previously completed work. The JACC regional conference is
held every fall at CSU Fullerton, with about 250 students and 50 staff
and advisers attending. The JACC is a non-profit organization of member
schools and advisers with a nearly all-volunteer staff.
More important than the awards was the level of student participation
and their desire to learn. Students from all three campuses conducted
themselves with collegiality and professionalism, representing the
Student Voice and Ventura, Oxnard and Moorpark Colleges in a manner of
which everyone can and should be proud. They showed terrific team
spirit by giving their best effort to each competition and working
together to help each other. In addition, they deeply impressed me with
their tremendous appreciation for the opportunity to learn, attending
numerous conference workshops in such topics as broadcast and
multimedia journalism, story and caption writing, photography, page
design and transferring to a CSU.
Congratulations team! You represented your campuses and your student
news media in the best possible way. You should all be proud.
Best regards to all,
Joanna Miller
