Basel Saleh According to a report by the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education "Measuring Up 2008: The National Report Card on Higher Education," 20 years ago, the U.S. was ranked #2 (after Canada) in the percentage of 25-64 years old with a college degree, today we are ranked # 7. Student's borrowing more than... doubled between 1998-2008 from $41 BILLION to $85 BILLION. Minorities are at risk of dropping out of college because of tuition increases. this will only extenuate the racial income divide and strengthen the power of the ruling elite.

Basel Saleh In the U.S. the Forbes 400 richest people in America are worth $1.2 trillion dollar, almost 10% of U.S. GDP. Tuition increased by 92% since 1999 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. If the state is broke, how do they expect people to have money. The U.S. is moving towards 100% privatized public education. You c...an't commodify everything that matters to people's life and living. Education and health care are merit goods. In Europe public education is a protected right, only in the U.S. everything is for sale.

Kari Does anyone know what AGENDA 21 is?

WHAT?
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 18th: PRESS CONFERENCE AND RALLY COVEL COMMONS @ 12 NOON
THURSDAY, NOV. 19th: STATE-WIDE RALLY TO DEFEND PUBLIC EDUCATION AND HOLD REGENTS ACCOUNTABLE, COVEL COMMONS @ 12 NOON
WHY?
The
UC Regents will be meeting at UCLA November 17-19th and will be voting
on proposed fee hikes of 32% over the rest of th...e 2009-2010 school
year. This is in addition to the 9.3% fee increase last spring. If

are we paying more for less?
In solidarity with unions and faculty, the students of the University of California seek the following:
▪LOWER STUDENT FEES
▪STOP THE PRIVATIZATION OF OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
▪DEFEND THE RIGHT TO QUALITY HIGHER EDUCATION

go to UCLA? NO PROBLEM. There will be buses leaving from all other UC
campuses to send people to support the cause. Contact your student
government to find out more about it.
INVITE ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS AND MAKE SURE THAT DON'T MISS OUT ON THE LARGEST DEMONSTRATION IN UCLA HISTORY!!!

Two UC
Regents, State Superintendent Jack O'Connell and Assembly Speaker Karen
Bass, have the potential to be solid "No" votes against the purposed
fee increases. Unfortunately neither has even committed to even
attending the upcoming Regents meeting.
That's right, O'Connell and Bass are both Regents but THEY DON'T EVEN... ...PLAN ON SHOWING UP!
When
their staff gets back into their respective offices on Monday at 8am,
we need to flood their phone lines all day with calls urging them to
show up and vote no. Unlike most regents, these two are elected
officials and likely to be influenced by calls from voters.
Their phone numbers are:
Superintendent Jack O'Connell - (916) 319-0800
Speaker Karen Bass - (916) 319-2047
We have a very simple script of:
Hi,
my name is _________, and I'm a UC student. I am calling to urge you to
fulfill your obligations as a UC Regent by attending the upcoming
regents meeting and by voting "no" on the purposed fee increases. Thank
you.
With enough phone calls...
