On a hot summer play day, my kids and I love to linger longer at the beach, park or around the neighbor’s backyard inflatable pool where we’re all enjoying our friends. “Ok, we’re leaving in 15 minutes,” I say half-heartedly every hour or so...

My family loves elephants. As a child, my sister lovingly called them “ah-tah-tah’s.” My children and I always go to see these social, loving, and intelligent mammals as our first stop at the zoo...

When I took Nathan for his one month old check, I asked his doctor just when I should begin reading to him...

Coug AND another baby girl! Kim and I are proud to introduce our new baby Katelyn Michelle Puhrmann. She was born at 10:52A.M. today.[Thursday, June 25th]She is 7lbs 12 oz., 20 inches tall and appears to have blonde highlights in her hair. Mom & baby are both doing great and are currently resting...

The sandbox has earned the title “classic.” Around for decades, the sandbox hasn’t changed much. Computer-era kids love it and radio-era kids thought it was swell. Why? Sand is an unstructured play material that takes on the shape of its container. It can be shaped into a round or a square...

Tonight I looked up at the stars with a new sense of awe and wonder. Stars have always inspired music, poetry, and childhood wishes. They provide a natural compass pointing to North at night and East and West during the day. Our most favorite star, the sun, gives us life sustaining heat and light...

During the summer months, I love a lawn chair, iced tea, good friends and hours in the sun. When my kids were toddlers, I discovered some backyard play that entertained them while allowing me to enjoy my favorite summer activities. By 15 to 20 months, toddlers practice “imitation play”...

My boys LOVED giving their little coupe cars a wash! I used to also fill up a bucket and give them measuring cups from the kitchen and told them to water my plants :-) Kept them quite busy and they helped with a necessary summer chore!

Everything we do is about movement. Without movement, we couldn’t express our feelings, take care of ourselves, have relationships, or go anywhere. Can you sit absolutely still? If you are still reading this, your eyes are moving. Much of our movement is affected by the proprioceptive system...
Jesikah at 10:47pm June 26
So true! Having sons with proprioceptive system processing issues, I can totally relate to what you are discussing. They spend most of their time in OT developing their motor planning abilities. Great list of ideas to help! Thanks :-)

Anita Faull Happy Birthday to Jesikah - our fabulous registration, free preview, administratively awesome gal!

Part 2: Who is in Charge of my Feelings? I recently blogged about why preschoolers need clear leadership to know who is in charge of their actions. Here’s the second reason Imagine That! children come to class by themselves: They need to know who is in charge of their feelings...

great article Alison! I love how you explain the learning process to us. You are the best!

Wonderful post, Miss Allison!!! I'm glad that I run across this. I have been worried. But now I'm much relieved to start Miles in your summer "Imagine That" class knowing he will be in your great care.

Part 1: Who’s in Charge of My Actions? I’m frequently asked why Imagine That! is a drop-off class instead of a mommy-and-me class like Our Time and Village. One of the main answers relates to confusion with authority figures...

Okay, so my posting has fallen behind this past week or so. But I’ve left my flu-ridden bed behind finally, andhopefully will be back to posting every couple of days. And I know last time I posted I promised you a fun and easy Aboriginal craft or two. So here’s the first one...

Studio3Music Question for all parents - does your child's preschool offer a music program? If not, let us know and we'll see about introducing & sharing our Kindermusik program at your child's preschool. Just email Ms Kim at kim@studio3music.com or respond to this posting! Thanks!!
Studio3Music at 6:37pm June 15
That's wonderful Airen! Thank you so much for sharing. We can't wait to see you soon!! :)

Ellen Johnson .... hyperventillating. People, I'm so excited!!!!!! I was nearly crying in the moment. can't quite describe it. I had to share it though. I'm so happy. Miss Allison means so much to our family. To see Alexander SHOWING rather than 'just' feeling love towards her is .... words fail me.
Anita at 10:08pm June 14
Wow Ellen! How wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing your excitement with us.

Ellen Johnson okay I felt I had to write this as it's the 1st time (yes 1st ) in the nearly 3 years we've been coming to see Miss Allison in Village, Our Time and soon to be Imagine That (?) anyway, for the last few weeks, Alexander (nearly 3) has been talking to her some times (you have to know at this point that he has a treated speech delay) so talking to ANYONE is big big obstacle for him, but to Miss Allison? unheard of literally, it was getting exciting on Thursday's Our time class when we were doing the 'Zoo Train' and her was getting really brave and showing her all his achievements, then he saw her 'do' a Giraffe. He LOVED it, talked about it at home then came to my Daughter's class today and commented on it again to her. then later on during snuggle time (after a couple of other significant steps) he indicated ever so subtly that he'd like to cuddle with her, Miss Allison was THERE asked him sort of passively then whipped him perfectly into her arms. I, meanwhile was practically ... tbc

When our first child was born a few weeks before Christmas, staying home was Unthinkable. I was bound and determined for him to meet his extended family who lived a plane ride away. So I packed up our newborn and ALL his paraphernalia and boarded the flight to Chicago, solo...

Anita Faull Somebody's having a BIRTHDAY! It's somebody special... it's....Analiisa!

In my last blog, “A Case for Conquering Home Chaos,” I promised a few of my favorite organizing resources & ideas. One of my favorite books is Home Comforts: The Art and Science of Keeping House, by Cheryl Mendelson...

For ten years now, I’ve been making the 45 minute drive from Mountlake Terrace to Redmond to go to Kindermusik with my three children. Two are now graduated. A few days ago I went to MY last class with my last child. Oh, she’s not done. But I am...

For those of you taking Zoo Train this spring, you’ll hear a didgeridoo during the song “Drover’s Dream”. You can clearly hear it at the beginning and the end of the piece. The didgeridoo is an instrument played by the Aborigines of northern Australia...

As the school year is winding down, many of us are attempting to regain control of our homes. We’re sorting and storing school stuff, shuttling junk off to the thrift store, planning for a garage sale. I was recently invited to an evening dedicated to the art of home organization...

Crystal Robinson Koski Here is Matthew with Miss.Katie on the last day of ABC and Me :)

I did promise this information a couple of weeks ago on a Tuesday, but then I got completely sideswiped with the start of the Spring Mini Session. Sorry about that, and thanks for your email reminders for me to finish...

When parenting my first born, I was often overwhelmed. Not only was I responsible for the well-being of this tiny person, but there was a staggering amount of brand new information to assimilate. My pre-parenting career had provided woefully little contact with infants...

Crystal Robinson Koski any more open play times coming soon before July 1st? at Redmond?
Anita at 7:01pm May 29
I don't think so Crystal. I think open play is on summer vacation. But I'll pass your question on to Miss Stacey who is the Open Play Coordinator.

We’re so happy to announce that Jude Turner Busiel entered the world at 11:25 PM this Thursday, May 21. He weighed in at a hearty 8 pounds 10 ounces, exactly the same as Giana’s birth weight, but on a shorter, 20.5″ frame...

My son Isaac had a brief romance with the book How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague, but I think we’ve read that one into retirement (for now). His new favorite book is Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney. The title alone makes me giggle a bit...

From birth on, your baby has been on a mission to grow and go. Once he rolls, he wants to crawl, when he walks, he wants to run. Working to master a new motion, a baby will let nothing get in the way of this progress...

I’m continually amazed at parental instinct. Quite unconsciously, we often behave in ways that concur with healthy development of our children. Picture a daddy tossing his little baby up in the air and catching her to the sound of her utterly joyful giggles...

“It’s coming for me!” shrieked Colin at age 2 1/2. Hiding behind our front door, he peered toward the front steps in pure terror. Instantly, my mama adrenaline kicked in. I leaped from my garden toward the front ready to defeat and defend. Instead, I stood staring in confusion...
