I just heard that the folks at Open-Silicon, MIPS Technologies, and Virage Logic have teamed together to create what they claim to be some of the fastest test chips yet designed. The 65 nm silicon runs 1.1 GHz today and a second project at 40 nm is targeted to exceed 2.5 GHz.
