GOES POP!

The 2008 Brighton Festival will see the launch of a fantastic new ‘Goes Pop!’ show from international tribute star Suspiciously Elvis.

The idea sprung from the extraordinary success of Suspiciously Elvis’ appearance with his band on BBC4’s ‘Pop, What Is It Good For?’ in January. The critically acclaimed programme is the brainchild of music guru and Elvis fan Paul Morley who judged a pop song great if it sounded right sung by the King!

Morley, who also presented the programme, asked Suspiciously Elvis and his band to give among others Kylie’s ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’, T-Rex’s ‘Ride A White Swan’ and The Kinks’ ‘Lola’ the king treatment.
Following the broadcast in early January, the Suspiciously Elvis’ web site and chat boards across the net were inundated with emails from BBC viewers asking where they could hear these numbers performed live, and thus ‘Suspiciously Elvis Goes Pop!’ was conceived as a full show.

In a fitting return, Brighton’s famous rock venue Concorde2 will be hosting the launch concert on Friday 9th May 2008 as part of the Brighton Festival. “It’s where I performed my first full Elvis show with my band” says Ivor Potter, star of Suspiciously Elvis and ex Brighton boy. “Goes Pop is very exciting but bit daunting. I have spent the last five years building up the Suspiciously Elvis brand as a quality show, paying the highest tribute we can to a great singer and his music”.

Potter goes on to say “I perform all over the world with my band and a troupe of beautiful Feathergirl dancers to faithfully re-create those great Vegas concerts. This last New Years Eve for example, we played to 20,000 people in Glasgow and they went mad for it – people take Elvis very seriously! So now performing numbers that Elvis himself had never heard felt a bit strange. We have been putting an enormous amount of time into arranging numbers the way he might have sung them and I have to admit there are some amazing results and people seem to love them”!

The set at the Concorde2 will include new versions of hits by the Kaiser Chiefs, Amy Winehouse, Scissor Sisters, Queen, Oasis, Jame’s Blunt, The Smiths, Madness, Erasure, Kylie and Robbie Williams.
