Tim O'Brien is one of the spearheads of contemporary bluegrass. A...s co-founder and lead vocalist of Hot Rize and Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers, O'Brien served as a bridge between the traditional sounds of the hill country and the modern styles of bluegrass in the 1980s. Since the band's breakup, O'Brien has continued to expand the music's borders as a soloist, a duo partner with his sister Mollie, and with his band, the O'Boys. O'Brien's songs have additionally been recorded by Kathy Mattea, the Seldom Scene, New Grass Revival, and the Johnson Mountain Boys.

emporary musicians Greg Anderson and Sara Milonovich will perform in a concert that ...includes contemporary and traditional pieces.

Milonovich has been playing the violin since she was 4 years old. She has performed with several classical ensembles in New York; her 1998 album "Mrs. Ippy Fiddle" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1999.

In 2004, she joined Anderson, a multi-instrumentalist who co-founded the Celtic fusion group Whirligig. Anderson is a guitarist with the Eileen Ivers Band and has performed and recorded with several international artists.

For this concert, the duo will be joined by Andy Goessling on mandolin, dobro, banjo, and saxophones.

Sara is an award-winning fiddler, singer, and tunesmith who has been performing various roots, bluegrass, Celtic, and Appalachian music since she was 4 years old. She spent the past few years touring and recording with The Cathie Ryan Band, and previously played with NY Irish-newgrass band The McKrells. Greg is a multi-instrumentalist who co-founded the acclaimed Celtic-fusion group Whirligig. Currently the guitarist with The Eileen Ivers Band, he has also performed and recorded with many diverse international artists, including Susan McKeown, The Klezmatics, Cathie Ryan, and Doctor Nerve, among others.

Playing a vibrant mix of contemporary and traditional songs and tunes from across the musical spectrum, Sara and Greg's music incorporates eclectic flavors from other countries and planets, as well as soulful compositions of their own. They have earned accolades for their fresh interpretations of music from many different genres, and for crisscrossing stylistic boundaries -- combining a firm grounding in a wide range of folk forms with a rich palette of modern and world music influences.
