Ircza Irczova Hi guys :)..
I am from Czech Republic and I wanna leave this country in September for my year in USA...Does anybody know about some nice family in NY or NJ ? I can´t wait for this time in US...I am going to the agency tomorrow with all of forms and documents,...Can anyone tell me final cost of all the things before you leave ? Is here somebody from Czech ?..

Kerri Clark

Kerri Clark Hi guys, i have a question for thoes that are either already over in the states or have their final match and are heading of there. i have been apart of the program a couple of months now and are getting matches but nothing concrete. how many pre-matches did you have before you got the right one? and how long did it take?

Chevie
Chevie
If you're getting prematched then i don't think there's anything wrong with your application. Trust me, it's way better to wait for the right family than take the first one you talk to b/c they sound ok. If you're really worried then call the office and ask the girls if they think there's anything you should add to your application.
Jolene

Jolene hey guys. im looking at going over in january 2010. havent appplied yet but am going to an info meeting on 18th july in west sunshine.. in melbourne. is anyone else going?

Tamara Schiele

Tamara Schiele Hello everyone I'm thinking about becoming an Au Pair when I finish my Certificate III in Children's Services at the end of this year. I'm currently working at a local kindergarten helping with special needs children, I would love to get in contact with other Au Pairs to talk about their experiences and chat with them about their time in the USA. Feel free to send me a message or friend request :)

Kristy Lee

Kristy Lee Hello Everyone! is anyone arriving at the Au Pair School on 31st August or the 1st of September? Is anyone coming from Sydney Airport? Is anyone living Near Atlanta??, Lemme know. Ta!

Melanie Harragon

Melanie Harragon I was wondering how much luggage people take? I know most international flights you can take 2 pieces of checked luggage and then on the plane usually you can take a small bag and/or laptop bag. Did most of you take 2 suitcases? What did you use for your carryon luggage? Also, when it comes to taking your domestic flight to meet your family. How do you get on? I've read that most American airlines charge for checked luggage. So does that mean we have to pay for all our luggage when we leave the school? Thanks heaps 8-)

Suzie
Suzie
i took two suitcases a backpack and a BIG purse. i had to pay for my 2nd bag on my domestic flight from NY to my host family but that can depend on the airline and on who serves you that day...but be prepared for up to $50 in luggage for your domestic flight to your host family.
Suzie
Suzie
I took the backpack on the plane and it was really full, I had pretty much what I ould need at the school in it, so almost a week of clothes
Chevie
Chevie
Make sure you keep your international flight itinerary and ticket stub on you when you catch your flight from NY because most domestic airlines won't make you pay if you have the thicket proving you've come from an international flight, even if it was nearly a week ago :)

I'd call them on Monday. Have you checked your intranet? The women at the office are super helpful and can at least tell you what to expect when :)
Stacey Lee Walsh

Stacey Lee Walsh Hey guys :) I am going to be an Au Pair im super excited just gotta to get the ball rolling i guess. I have a question for the Au Pairs that are there now and ones that have previously been?? How much of your own money would you reccomend taking over. I dont want to take to much or to less and I know there is never enough money so I would really like some sort of idea...I mean I would like to know that I have money if something goes wrong or for emergencies...it would be great to hear from you guys :)

Chevie
Chevie
My first time over i bought $750 and spent most of it on new clothes the first couple weeks i was there. This time i came over with $300 and a wardrobe ready for an american winter :) I'd say being at least a couple hundred but after that it's up to you. you'll want money for stuff in New York, then money for whatever you've forgotten to pack and to get you through the first week before you get your first pay.
Jolene
Jolene
so you guys reckon about 3grand would be enough??
Cultural Care Au Pair Australia
What is being an au pair all about? My host family and Iarea great match although I actually had planned to find a host family in New York. But seriously…it’s not the place that is important, it’s the family you stay and live with for so long...

Rachel Tuffin

Rachel Tuffin was just wondering if there are people who didn't get the extended insurance and then needed it? I was always planning on getting it but I am now having a few issues with money.. I am going to try my best to get it but if I can't will it be a huge problem? cheers

Sarah
Sarah
i just got the 13 month insurance ur still covered 4 everything
Cultural Care Au Pair Australia
Everyone leaves on a basic insurance that covers you upto $50,000

The extended insurance has an unlimited cap - it really is that peace of mind and we highly recommend it
Elena Feshti

Elena Feshti anybody i cairns?or can give me a opinion about cairns?thankss girlss!

How should I interview an au pair candidate? Once you have been matched with an au pair, it’s time to figure out if she is the best fit for your family. Start by making a list of questions prior to calling her for an interview...
Cultural Care Au Pair Australia
Can my au pair teach my children her native language? One of the great benefits of bringing an au pair into your home is exposing your family to another culture and language...
Cultural Care Au Pair Australia
Is hosting an au pair right for my family? When you are considering whether or not to host an au pair, it is very natural to have concerns about welcoming another person to live in your home. People worry about giving up privacy, the cost of the program and getting along...
Aimee Bald

Aimee Bald To all the au pairs already in America, does anyone know what the Cultural Care Au Pair Club is, and should we pay the $65, and join it before we leave?

Sarah
Sarah
yes u should it entitles to to a student card which helps with loads of things u will get things heaps cheaper and also i got the one where u get three phone cards this one was $`125.00 but give culturalcare a call and they will explain in more detail
Cultural Care Au Pair Australia
Au Pair Club 1 - is $65 (you get a discount card, much like a student card here in Australia, a pink CCAP bowling bag and a journal)

Au Pair Club 2 - is $125 (everything stated above plus 3 x phone cards valued at $25 each)

The Au Pair Club 1 & 2 are great value, Don't miss out!
Elisha Brooks

Elisha Brooks hey!
lm not an au pair yet, but l have heard about an extension program to the original 12 months?
does anyone know exatly how long you can extend it for?
and also what are the different options in extending? (such as can you choose 3, 6 or 12 months?)
thanks!

Cultural Care Au Pair Australia
Hi girls,
Aimee you are exactly right! 6, 9 or 12 months.
One thing to remember though is that you can only extend once on your visa (you cant extend for 6 months, then extend for the other 6)

Please let us know if you have any other questions with this
