A student poetry contest is a new feature of the Great Smoky Mountains Book Fair this year. First Prize in each division is $50; Second Prize is $25.
Winning poems will be read by author Allan Wolf at the Book Fair on November14th and will be published in the Smoky Mountain News.
Deadline: Poems must be received by October 31, 2009.

A fantastic writer and story teller this event is not to be missed! Plus there will be cookies and apple juice!!! YUM.

City Lights Bookstore Mountain Xpress: Best CRAFT/GIFT STORE in Sylva/Cullohwee area. "If you consider books a really great gift, then I guess we earned it!" says City Lights owner Joyce Moore. Since she bought the shop in 1986, it has been a backbone for local and regional authors, many of whom have performed readings there. On Nov. 14, the store will host the Great Smoky Mountain Book Fair.

City Lights Bookstore Cleveland Jones will be at the store on Saturday, October 24th from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. to autograph his new novel, The Firescalds: Road to the Sky. The book is in part a fictionalized account of his family’s life growing up on a farm in Jackson County’s Barker’s Creek community in the 1950s.
