The E. Gregory Keating Global Health Lecture series is pleased to welcome Shirley Novak, a founding board member of Doctors for Global Health (www.dghonline.org), to speak on DGH’s activities and share how students can become involved.
Doctors for Global Health is an all-volunteer organization that works with communitie...s to provide health care to indigenous populations. DGH has sites in several countries, including Uganda, El Salvador and Mexico. In addition to health care providers, DGH volunteers include people in fields such as architecture, teaching and computer science to serve other needs in the community.
Shirley Novak, a resident of Syracuse, is Treasurer of DGH and Co-Chair of DGH’s Uganda project. She has worked in Uganda and travels annually to lead teaching workshops at DGH’s sites in El Salvador.

Dr. Donna Hughes is a leading international rese...archer on trafficking of women and children. She has studied trafficking in the U.S., Russia and Korea and consults with organizations and governments on policy related to women's human rights. She was a research consultant to the Council of Europe and reported on the Internet and sex trafficking. She has written three research/policy papers for the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in the U.S. State Department and has testified before the U.S. House International Relations Committee, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the Moscow Duma, and the Czech Parliament.Read More
