THE BETRAYAL - NERAKHOON
THE BETRAYAL (NERAKHOON) is the directorial debut of world-renowned cinematographer Ellen Kuras (Spike Lee's SUMMER OF SAM and Michel Gondry's ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND) and is a remarkable collaboration with the subject of the film and co-director, Thavisouk Phrasavath.
Beautifully filmed over the course ...of 23 years, THE BETRAYAL the story of a family's epic journey from war-torn Laos to the mean streets of New York. Thavisouk Phrasavath tells his own story of struggling as a young man to survive both the war and the hardships of immigrant life, as well as his mother's astonishing tale of perseverance.
The film, a poetic, deeply personal story about the hidden, human face of war’s “collateral damage”, will be released across the country in theaters starting IFC Center in New York City on November 21st and across the country this winter. Already short-listed for many awards for 2008, THE BETRAYAL will also be shown on PBS and released DVD this spring.
The objective our outreach is to highlight the work and support the organizations that are working to recognize and gain honorary U.S. citizenships for Laotian soldiers who fought on behalf of the U.S. in the Vietnam War. In addition, we aim to engage and create awareness in the public sector about the important work of organizations who are taking action on the human rights crisis in Lao and surrounding areas.
“Resolutely gripping.”

“Exquisitely beautiful and emotionally compelling.”
