The 10.2% is people unemployed and receiving unemployment aka a bullshit statistic. The 17.5% is more accurate as it gauges people who are trying to find a job but are not receiving unemployment.

Cops are there to enforce the law. So, what statute were they enforcing? I would be surprised to learn there was one. They seem to be out of their jurisdiction here.

I think both parties are misreading these results. This election was about jobs and the economy. It was an anti incumbent vote mainly. If the GOP does well next year, as I expect they will, it will have more to do with how high unemployment is then, and how many tax increases are contained in health care reform, and cap and trade legislation. But, that's a year from now, a lot can happen by then.

How this headline didn't come from The Onion is beyond me.

The government only steps in if they feel they would be implicated in the issue as well. Sometimes the 10th amendment exists, sometimes it doesn't. It's picking and choosing and shows that our 220 year old Constitution may need to be rehashed. It's the only way we can progress as a nation.
