The Grayson County Humane Society is a non-profit organization with no paid employees. Volunteers manage the shelter. The city provides the building and utilities – and the volunteers do the rest. The Grayson County Humane Society is an open-admissions shelter for the city so they must accept any animal brought to them within the city limits. They do, when possible, assist with homeless animals in their county also.

The shelter’s kill rate is very low since they work very hard to find good adopters and rescues (mostly rescues). They transport animals as needed all over the northeast - primarily to deliver animals to safety. The Grayson County Humane Society also offer s low-cost spay/neuter to the community through the SNIP clinic operated by the Kentucky Humane Society. They hope that by offering this benefit to the community, those who are less able to afford it will take advantage and help reduce the homeless population.

The primary goal of the Grayson County Humane Society is to provide care and safety for the animals entrusted to their care until they can find them homes. Any animal they take in gets the care they need while they are with them. Their ultimate goal is no homeless animals in their city. They feel that spay/neuter is the best way to reduce the homeless population and require that all animals leaving their shelter have been altered. In order to also help eliminate the homeless population, they provide low-cost spay/neuter clinics to the general population.

The Grayson County Humane Society relies solely on dedicated volunteers who operate on donations. Their vet bill is never paid off. Just within the past two weeks they have had a senior dog get a complete mastectomy, 3 cats had to have an eye removed, and a puppy just arrived with a broken leg and has already had it set. They rely so much on the “kindness of strangers” to help their homeless pets.

Help Save One is a registered, non-profit organization that functions as an advocate for dogs who are in danger of being euthanized. They believe gassing and heart sticks are barbaric ways to euthanize innocent animals. Help Save One believes in letting people know exactly what happens when a dog is euthanized. They educate people on the suffering these animals endure as they are put to death.

The Help Save One website provides very graphic details of the euthanasia process. Although the graphic nature may offend some, Help Save One believes it is necessary in order to help save these poor, defenseless animals.

Help Save One works to save the dogs of North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia. They are also involved in the plight of puppymill dogs who are kept in horiffic conditions and are used for breeding or sold to pet stores.

The goal of Help Save One is to see an end to the barbaric euthanasia of companion animals via gassing and heart sticking. They promote spay & neuter laws along with low cost programs available.

Help Save One is a non-political, humane, and caring organization that aims to help the animals until the gas chambers are outlawed, heart sticks are no longer acceptable, and shelters are empty.

Help Save One is NOT a shelter, therefore, there is no facility available to visit and adopt the dogs. However, the dogs can be viewed via Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet.
