Taiwan SPCA
The Taiwan SPCA got a call on Christmas morning from supporter Brian, who had heard a kitten crying outside his home during the night. When he saw the kitten, he could see she was in urgent need of veterinary attention, with a very sickly look about her and gunked-up eyes.
The SPCA collected the kitten and named her Chr...imbo. The young female cat is currently at a vet receiving treatment but should soon be available for adoption.

Taiwan SPCA
This is DoFu, spotted in the middle of a fast and busy road between XinDian and Wulai. Her fur was so matted that it had formed into hard balls, but her claws were very long, and she was 'road stupid'. We believe, therefore, that she hadn't been stray long, and was more likely to have been very poorly looked after and ...recently dumped or escaped.
The Taiwan SPCA managed to get DoFu out of the road, and then net her. She was taken straight to the vet for a check-up, hair cut, shampoo, and nail trim.
The sweet but timid little lady was lucky enough to find a great foster home very close to where she was found, but she escaped from a seemingly secure patio after one night.
So, DoFu is back where she was, in a better condition, though still road stupid, so the SPCA will keep patrolling the area until she is found again.

The Taiwan SPCA got a call from volunteer Andrea about a dog in her community with a gin trap on his ankle. (See her video here: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?
Gin traps are extremely cruel and painful indiscriminate devices for catching small prey, and many animals in Taiwan, from dogs to cats ...to wildlife, lose a limb or their life to them.
The rescue was a success, and the dog was taken to the LCA veterinary clinic for treatment and neutering. Thanks to the prompt actions of Andrea and her fellow community members, the trap had not had time to do too much damage, and the dog is now recovering back on the street where his pack members were over the moon to welcome him back.
His foot was swollen but there was no tendon damage and only small puncture wounds from the teeth of the trap. He is receiving meds on the street and should be fine.

This is a very healthy, very friendly dog living in a quiet XinDian community, who has fallen victim to an illegal gin trap, used in Taiwan by people who want to protect their farms, catch rats, or just harm companion animals.

Marvin was rescued by animal-welfare volunteer, Tyler, after the skinny young dog turned up in his neighbourhood. Marvin is very thin, and, from the way he holds his stomach up and back hunched, is in a lot of pain. He can't walk properly, and, although extremely affectionate, he bites whenever his back is touched.
Orig...inally taken in by another animal-welfare group for several days, Marvin was due to be put back. The Taiwan SPCA is against putting unhealthy animals on the street, and also against returning any animal to the street more than 48 hours after they were caught, as they have a difficult time fitting back in the longer they are away, and other animals often won't accept them back. So Marvin was brought into SPCA care. The vets at LCA suggest he gets good care for the next two weeks, to put some healthy weight on and see if that improves his condition. If not, we will do further tests. Often, when dogs get too thin, it creates severe back pain, as the back muscles can no longer keep the spine in place.
Marvin is now learning how to behave around other dogs. He has a great appetite, so we hope to see his weight go up and his condition improve very rapidly.

Taiwan SPCA Princess's progress is still slow, but progress there is. She now has a patch of short fur on the back of her neck--that pic coming soon! :)
