Vice Chairman of the Leon County Commission, Bob Rackleff will be the inaugural lecturer in The Brogan Museum's lecture series celebrating its six-month-long exhibition of THE KINSEY COLLECTION. His lecture will describe key historical realities of Florida's slave economy and its legacy of racial intolerance that prev...ailed until just a few years ago.

In addition to his elected office, Rackleff is a writer and historian educated at Florida State University, where he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees and completed all requirements but a dissertation for a doctorate in U.S. History. He has published articles on African American and Florida history in the Negro History Bulletin and Florida Historical Quarterly.

This is the first Lecture that supports THE KINSEY COLLECTION: Shared Treasures of Bernard and Shirley Kinsey, a breathtaking collection of more than one hundred rare books, sculptures, paintings, documents, manuscripts and vintage photographs which tell the story of African Americans in the Americas from 1632 to present. THE KINSEY COLLECTION spans four centuries; cohesively preserving African American history with artifacts, while also delving into contemporary African American Art.

The Lecture will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 2:00PM held at The Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science. Addmission is FREE
