ISLAMORDA, FL--Yee haw! Get out your cut-offs and your cowboy boots, because T.J.’s 5th Annual Ho Down is right around the corner on Saturday, August 8 at the Holiday Isle Tiki Bar in Islamorada.
Best known for his Pimp & Ho party, which was a huge success again this summer, Hayes is back in theme party action with this... country event.
A great time to let out your inner redneck, the popular mechanical bull will be back again, and the Jason Duncan Country Band will be playing country hits on the main stage.
“The mechanical bull is always a huge favorite,” said Hayes. “It’s so much fun that people ask me all year long if we are going to have it again.”
New this year, will be a Lobster Fest in celebration of the opening of lobster season. The raw bar on the water will cook your catch for only $9.95, and the person who catches the biggest lobster wins a $100 bar tab.
“We wanted to take the opportunity to provide a fun and inexpensive event for not only the locals but for everyone who is in town for the beginning of lobster season,” Hayes said. “So many people come down for that weekend, but since summer is winding down, there’s not a lot going on.”
Hayes added that even more people dress up for the Ho Down than for the Pimp & Ho. The guys break out their Wrangler’s, while the girls take their wardrobe cue from The Dukes of Hazzard.
The Daisy Duke Contest continues this year with a $1,000 cash purse, and there will be great giveaways from the Hillbilly Brand Clothing Line (Hillybillybrand.com).
A DJ will be spinning Southern favorites up in the VIP room at the Quarter Deck, and VIP wristbands can be picked up at Hayes’ sign business, Eye Catchers Signs, or next door at the City Hall Café, both at mile marker 88.5.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Nick Shehan Scholarship Fund
Ho Down will be held on Saturday, August 8 at Holiday Isle in Islamorada with doors opening at 9:00 p.m. The Daisy Duke contest starts at 11:00 p.m. Admission is $10. Call 305-664-2321 or visit Eye Catchers Signs on Facebook for more information.Read More

Islamorada’s version of Fantasy Fest hits the Holiday Isle Tiki Bar on Saturday, June 27 with TJ’s 15th annual Pimp & Ho Party.
Raised here in the Keys, TJ Hayes started throwing the Pimp & Ho Party in 1994 from his home in Tavernier. As the number of attendees grew, he moved the party to progressively larger venues lik...e the now-defunct Little Jamaica, Big Fish, Hog Heaven and finally to Holiday Isle in 2003.
The party now draws revelers from all over the state of Florida, as well as the United States.
“The reputation for this event has really grown over the years,” Hayes said. “I’ve had people come from as far as California. People know that I always have it the weekend before the 4th of July, and they plan their costumes way in advance.”
Each year, there is a costume contest with a $1,000 cash prize, which is judged by the audience.
“The girls get dressed up real sexy and the guys are totally pimped out,” Hayes said. “It’s so fun to be there and watch because everyone gets so creative.”
There will be a VIP room with a DJ upstairs in the quarter deck that is mainly for the locals. People can pick up their VIP wrist bands at Hayes’ sign business, Eye Catchers Signs, or next door at the City Hall Café, both at mile marker 88.5.
Local band, Stereo Underground, will be playing their unique mix of alternative, rock and indie music on the main stage.
“I keep the ticket prices low at $10, so everyone can afford to come.” Hayes said. “Sometimes it feels like the Keys is losing its hometown feel, but when the people come out for this event, you can really feel a sense of community. I keep throwing these parties year after year because I think events like this keep the funky Keys spirit alive.”
TJ’s Pimp & Ho will be on Saturday, June 27 at the Tiki Bar at Holiday Isle in Islamorada. Tickets are $10, and doors open at 9 p.m. The costume contest will start at 11:00 p.m. Call 305-664-2321 or visit Eye Catchers Signs on Facebook for more information.
