A growing number of teenagers have been dressing to articulate gender identity and sexual orientation, confounding school officials, whose responses have ranged from indifference to applause to bans.

More applause please. There is enough judgment in the world. School should be a place to be nurtured.

I can only agree! Teenage-hood is a weird and artificial time, and societies have trouble with it, and for good reason. High school is tough enough even at it's best.

Just for the record, Meb is one cool dude--I met him during my undergrad days at UCLA...and I'm proud to call him a fellow American.

MARSHALL COUNTY, AL(WAFF)- Teaching of the Bible in high school is a trend that's on the rise. More than two dozen public schools in Alabama are already offering Bible related courses, and nowa Marshall County school is exploring the idea.

I'm a World Language teacher and when I taught high school French I covered religion because, as Kelleen said so well, culture and religion are so often bound together. We started off learning to discuss cultural differences without judgment, then moved on to examining those differences. One of the reasons colleges like HS students to study other languages is not just so they can conjugate a verb, but so they can open their minds to the world outside the known boundaries of their own.

Very creative! We learn so much from people who are different than ourselves, not just similar. Through our differences we can still enjoy unity! Cheers to the students of Clear Creek High!

I'm not gay, but I don't understand why it bugs other people so much. Who cares who chooses who to be their spouse? What the heck has that got to do with saving our economy, providing health care to everyone, being responsible for each other. If the constitution were taken literally, this wouldn't and shouldn't be an issue.
I'm sorry it didn't pass, it should never have had to be an option in the first place.

Come lunch time at Evanston Township High School, decades of work to integrate the schools and diversify classrooms would seem lost on teenagers who self-segregate in the school's cafeterias.
