Personal Interests:
“We wrote this book, without holding anything back, to empower young women. I always encourage girls to talk to their mothers. But if that’s not possible, I prefer them to find another adult woman to confide in. Now, when girls have questions, they can turn to TEEN SISTERS' HEALTH for honest and factual answers. –Dr. Linda

I'm M. LaVora Perry, co-author of TEEN SISTERS' HEALTH--A Body Mind, & Spirit Wellness Guide for Girls of Color. My co-author, Linda Bradley, MD is an internationally respected gynecologist and obstetrician--a doctor of female reproductive health with over 26 years of experience. Dr. Linda has been quoted in Essence, O, and other popular and professional publications.

Dr. Linda wanted to create a guide like TEEN SISTERS' HEALTH after years of meeting young patients who suffered from having no clue about how to protect themselves against pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. She told me of one 17 year-old patient who had 7 children and never had a period. Why? Because when she was 10, and her uncle first raped her, she would have had her first period. After that she had a baby fathered by her uncle year after year. So she never had a chance to menstruate. (In case there's anyone reading this that doesn't know it, periods stop while you're pregnant.)
