Tempe Community Council Coalition battles Tempe's underage drinking problem

Tempe is pouring resources into a newly formed coalition to combat underage drinking and drug use. The coalition is launching an education campaign in middle schools and high schools, which also puts Tempe in the position of setting the example for positive change.

Charles Trumbull Hayden was Tempe’s founder and its first great humanitarian. “Don Carlos,” as the Spanish pioneers affectionately called him, was known across Arizona for the assistance he provided to people in need. Presented annually by Tempe Community Council, the Don Carlos Humanitarian Award is considered to be... one of Tempe’s most prestigious distinctions. This year we are honored to present this award to Sue Ringler for her outstanding service to our community. Sue is dedicated to helping those less fortunate and has a strong capacity to organize people and efforts to address concerns of those in need within the community. Her dedication to helping others resulted in many projects including extensive involvement in establishing Paz de Cristo, I-HELP (Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program), and Project Homeless Connect, all the while bringing together many volunteers from the diverse segments of faith, business, and the human services community to serve thousands of people in need.
