American Corner Tetovo Tuesday, December 24th, to mark Thanksgiving Day, American Corner Tetovo in cooperation with Melissa Hauke, Peace Corps Volunteer dedicated this session of Conversation Hours to this American holiday. We were honored to have as guests the Public Affairs Officer and Assistant Mr. Ryand Rowland and Mr. Mustafa Ferati fro...m the US Embassy, who joined the participants and together with PCV Melissa Hauke introduced them to what Thanksgiving Day is and why it is celebrated, by sharing the most important news and dates of this federal holiday, to continue with a bingo game, guessing the traditional thanksgiving food. Thanksgiving became a federal holiday in 1941 and it was firstly celebrated to give thanks to God for helping the pilgrims survive the brutal winter. The first Thanksgiving feast lasted three days providing enough food for pilgrims and Indians. The traditional Thanksgiving menu often features turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. Once again, Conversation Hours proved to be one of the most successful and useful activities for our members, where English is freely spoken.
