Texas Dance Hall Preservation, Inc. What makes a good dance band? Who is your favorite band to dance to? (A band that is alive, still playing every weekend somewhere in Texas.)

Texas Dance Hall Preservation, Inc. One 2 step is not all 2 steps - Country people dance different than city people. If you learned to dance from your grandpa or grandma you dance different than if you learned from a dance class. If you learned to dance in Austin, you dance different than if you learned to step it up in Lubbock. The big question - W...ho should lead?? The guy or the girl? And who's fault is it if the couple mis steps??

Shirley Just ordered the calendar and then looked thru some of the website's dance hall collection. Just wonderful--such a shame some are gone. Thank you so much for preserving all of this. My parents danced at the halls in Moulton, Praha, Hallettsville, Schroeder and the outside Oak Grove pavillion. Thanks for the memories.

Laurel Robertson The difference between a dancehall and a honky tonk? It's the little girl learning to dance standing on her grandpa's feet...

Edward TYVM for someone realizing that this part of Texas History is slowly becoming Extinct ................... Im lucky to be old enuff to have danced at Most ALL the Great Dancehalls here n Texas...................w00t w00t ............

NPR Story: Dance halls throughout Central Texas have been dying off from decay
and disuse. The best way to save them? Dance in them! The dance halls are the most Texas thing there is. Texas
was once home to an estimated 1,000 dance halls. Today, there are about half that many; most are at risk of being lost.

Texas was once home to an estimated 1,000 dance halls — a legacy of the European immigrants who poured into the state in the 19th century. Half of the halls are now gone, and many that remain are moldering away. Enthusiasts say the best way to save the halls is to dance in one.

Joan I rented Fischer Hall (outside Wimberley, at Lake Canyon) for my wedding for only $75 - I'd post pictures, but that was before digital cameras! Great story on NPR.

Isaac D. Kremer Great spot on NPR today! Keep up the good work.
