Texas Tech Hurricane Research Team The QuikScat satellite has "retired" from service this week and looks like its mission has come to an end. QuikScat functioned an additional 7 years past its design lifetime of 3 years. The satellite has been a useful tool to identifying developing tropical systems as well as monitoring systems in the other basins that... don't have the luxury of aircraft reconnaissance.
