I admit it. Willingly. One of my favorite movies of all time is Frank Capra’s “It’s A Wonderful Life.” It wasn’t evidently that big a hit when it was released in 1946, even though it was nominated for five Academy Awards. ...

The Accidental Amazon Now here's a hot news flash...

www.webmd.com
A survey of cancer patients shows most want their doctors to be honest about their chances of survival.

And then there's this from a 2006 study on patient perceptions of specialist physicians:

"Specialty physicians show a limited range of communicative skills as they use a doctor-centered style that allows for little patient participation. Patients’ perceptions of patient-centered [care is] linked to satisfaction more than the analysis of doctors’ behaviour at the consultation [is]."

Getting radiation can really be the pits — especially the armpits, as it turns out. It’s definitely one of those experiences that makes you think, “Oh, if I knew then what I know now…”

The Accidental Amazon Dr. Weiss & Dr. Love discuss the new mamm guidelines.

abcnews.go.com
Two cancer experts discuss the need for mammograms.

The Accidental Amazon
You know what? I'm gonna say this. There's no question Dr. Love is a pioneer on the issue of breast cancer & she has done & continues to do a lot to put the issue out there & to work toward a cure. But...Dr. Love doesn't treat patients anymore, I don't believe. And Dr. Weiss is a practicing oncologist. So. Something to keep in mind while considering the difference in their points of view.

The Accidental Amazon Dr. Marisa, the founder of BCO, expresses her opinion.

www.breastcancer.org
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recently recommended dramatic changes to current breast cancer screening guidelines. Breastcancer.org is strongly opposed to these recommendations.

Among other things, Dr. M says: "In proposing the changes, the task force members said that starting mammograms later in life and doing mammograms less often would save a large amount of money. It also means that about 3% more women would die from breast cancer each year. The task force members felt that the amount of money saved (from fewer ... See Moremammograms and side effects of extra biopsies and treatment) was greater than the value of more lives saved (3% fewer women surviving breast cancer)." Right on, Doc.

The Accidental Amazon Here's a pretty good article deciphering the new mamm guidelines.

www.app.com
NEW YORK — Most women should wait until age 50 to get mammograms and then have one every two years, a government task force said Monday in a major reversal that conflicts with the American Cancer Society's long-standing recommendation of annual screening starting at 40.
