The Big Read - Wichita For some reason, we're thinking a little bit about this particular story of Poe's: "The Balloon Hoax." You won't find it in "Great Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe," but it has an interesting story behind it, inspired Jules Verne, and just seems oddly appropriate all these years later.

More than just a good afternoon's entertainment for local goths, the events are meant to make up for the fact that when Poe died in 1849, his funeral was attended by fewer than 10 people.
