I was at the run in Blackheath on 13th July; a group of friends were running the race in memory of my brother who sadly died four weeks ago from bowel cancer aged just 29. He'd been fighting the disease for 18 months and managed to run the race last year after only 8 weeks recovery from major surgery to remove his tumour. He'd entered the race again this year before he found out that his cancer had returned and was terminal. I ran in the Race for Life with my twin sister and between us all we managed to raise £2100. Nothing will bring my big brother back but I hope that the money we raised wil stop another family going through what we did. My heart goes out to all of you out there who are battling/have lost anyone from bowel cancer. xx

I had a great day at the London event and will be taking part again next year, it was nice to feel like I was giving something back. So far I have raised £375 which will be doubled by my employer Computacenter. Took part because my mum died of bowel cancer in 1988, and my sister got bowel cancer in 2006. Whilst she beat that she is currently having treatment for secondery liver cancer. God bless all of you who took part in this and for the money raised to help beat this horrible disease. One thing I learned on the day is that 2/3 of cases could be prevent by making lifestyle changes...I have already made changes due to the family link but it certainly makes you think.
