About Israel Rodriguez:
Born in Camaguey, Cuba, Israel began classical ballet training at the famed Vocational Art School. He began his professional dance career with the Ballet de Camaguey under the direction of Fernando Alonso where he performed as a soloist. His abilities earned him the opportunity to tour around the world, including Greece, Brazil and Mexico. A principal dancer with the Orlando Ballet under the direction of both Fernando Bujones and Bruce Marks, Israel performed solo roles in virtually all of the ballet classics including: Coppelia, Don Quixote, Giselle, La Bayadere, La Fille Mal Gardee, Les Sylphides, Le Corsaire, Serenade, Napoli, Tarantella (Balanchine), Paquita, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Polovitzians Dances and The Nutcracker. Notably, Israel was the first male dancer in the United States to perform the full-length ballet Spartacus. The accomplished dancer has earned rave reviews from the Orlando Sentinel, Dance Magazine, Dance Spirit, International Dance Magazine and arts communities across the globe. Additionally, Israel is a talented filmmaker with extensive experience in the television and motion picture industry as an actor, director, model and martial artist.

This August, The Center for Contemporary Dance honors the life and legacy of Merce Cunningham (April 16, 1919 – July 26, 2009), whose pioneering work forever changed the perception of American dance.

One of the greatest choreographers of our time and the founder of the... Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Cunningham was most interested in creating organic dance works that explored the limitless possibilities of movement itself. Cunningham’s radical approach to time, space and technology lives on in performances by the now 56-year-old Cunningham Dance Company, which continues to exhilarate audiences around the world.

Please join us for this multi-dimensional learning program featuring live performances, a film presentation of the artist’s work and an open dialogue exploring the daring genius of Merce Cunningham!

Space is limited. Advanced ticket purchase is highly recommended. Purchase tickets online at www.TheCenterForDance.org or call (407) 695-8366.
