Chorallaries of MIT Fall Concert 2008
Time:8:00PM Friday, December 5th
Location:10-250 (That's MIT Building 10, 2nd floor, room 50)

The Chorallaries of MIT
UPDATE: We will be at a table in the Student Center on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (12/8-10) taking sign ups for audition slots! Each audition should take no more than 10-15 minutes of your time.
The Chorallaries of MIT are reaching out to find new talent for next term and beyond!
What we're looking for:
-Talented sing...ers or soloists that are able to blend well in a group
-Motivated individuals who will work hard to contribute to the success of the group over the years that they are a member
-Able to handle a significant time commitment outside of class dedicated to rehearsing and performing
-Strong desire to balance the workload of MIT with music in a fun, friendly, and close-knit group
Auditions are for immediate placement into the group for Spring Term 2009. Major events this Spring term include the 2009 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (required, Quarterfinals 2/7, Semifinals 3/21), The Concert in Bad Taste (optional, 2/28), and our Spring Concert (required, early May).
Accepted new members should be willing to commit a significant portion of time in the evenings (3 hours nightly, 6 days a week) over the last three weeks of IAP to rehearse for competition. During the term, we rehearse 6-8 hours a week (3 hours in the afternoon on Sunday, 3 hours at one weeknight rehearsal, and discretionary time for sectionals, solo workshops, and percussion workshops). We also perform regularly throughout the greater Boston area, in addition to rehearsal time.
If you have had previous experience in high school choir ensembles, collegiate a aappella is a great way to continue singing. Even if you have no formal singing experience, do not worry! In past years our members have come from a wide range of musical backgrounds, including just "singing in the shower"!
Our auditions are meant to be low-pressure, and all you will need to prepare is a short solo, which can be any song you want (really, any song - we've heard stuff from the pop charts, oldies, complicated Italian arias, to "Happy Birthday"... whatever you think best showcases your vocal talent!). We will have you warm up a bit for us, and then we will guide you through a few short exercises. We will be inviting a select group back for callbacks, where you will sing with our group as we teach you a couple of our songs!
Contact choral-auditions@mit.edu if you are interested and need more information, or if you have questions.
Feel free to invite your friends!Read More
